October 19, 200718 yr Although my system is by no means a slouch whereFS9 is concerned, it Windows 10 (x64) - X-Plane 11 - M/B: Asus ROG Maximus IX Hero - CPU: i7 7700k (@5.0GHz) - RAM: 32Gb Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 @ 3200MHz - Video: GTX1080ti - Cooling: Custom water loop (EK 140 Revo D5 pump/res combo, EK EVO CPU block, EK XE360 Rad)
October 19, 200718 yr A good value system: E6850, 2GB ram, eVGA 8800GTS 320MB, P5KThat will run FSX about as good as it gets.If you go with a quad, you'll want to overclock it as the stock 2.4Ghz is on the low side for FSX. Quads run hot so if overclocking you will need more cooling in the case and a 3rd party CPU cooler. For FSX the difference between a quad and duo is very small if any, at the same CPU speeds while flying. If you can wait a month or two, a new 8800GT and new 9800's are coming out, based on nVidia's new G92 core. The 8800GT with 512MB is expected to run faster than the GTS versions but cost less ($200-$250). Then next the 9800's are due but will be high priced to start. If you dont want to wait just build the system above you will be happy I think. October 19, 200718 yr Author Thanks. What about the mobo? Is there anything better than the the P5K for FSX? Windows 10 (x64) - X-Plane 11 - M/B: Asus ROG Maximus IX Hero - CPU: i7 7700k (@5.0GHz) - RAM: 32Gb Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 @ 3200MHz - Video: GTX1080ti - Cooling: Custom water loop (EK 140 Revo D5 pump/res combo, EK EVO CPU block, EK XE360 Rad)
October 19, 200718 yr No, the MB only makes a difference in overclocking, and the features it offers. FSX is really CPU speed dependant if you have an 8800 for a video card.I went with the P5K Deluxe, as it's a good overclocker, but if you just plan to run at stock speeds any MB will do. October 19, 200718 yr Author Thanks again. Are you using the E6850 for overclocking? If so, how does it fair? October 20, 200718 yr >>Thanks again. Are you using the E6850 for overclocking? If>>so, how does it fair?>>It fairs just fine here. ;)>I use the Q6700 got it to 3.2Ghz very good for a quad. The e6850 being a duo should go higher for you, just watch your temps. I'd suggest a 3rd party heatsink if you want to go to 3.6.FSX at 3.6 with a overclocked 8800GTX is about as good as it gets!I have my quad at 3.2 with a 8800GTS at 620/900, running at 2560x1600 and I lock at 25fps almost all the time, at least using stock aircraft.I'm not sure if a GTX can give higher fps than a GTS in FSX, or an Ultra for that matter. I did notice that FSX takes over 500MB of GPU memory according to memstatus 2.5, so its worth at least getting a 8800GTS 640MB instead of the 320MB version. October 20, 200718 yr Author Do you think with that setup mentioned, i could possibly be looking at a 30-50% increase with frame rates over my current system (see sig)?
