It's as confusing as can be :)Core 2 is the name of the current architecture of the Intel CPUs, making reference to the design of the processor such as layout, cache and microcode. Dual core indicates there are TWO processor cores on a single die. Quad core means there are FOUR processor cores on a single die.So, a Core 2 duo is a two "core" Core 2 processor. A Core 2 quad is a four "core" Core 2 processor. Core 2 "extreme" means the processor has an unlocked multiplier, is very expensive, and can be either a two core or a four core depending on the model. So if its a 2gz dual core, then is it 2gz per core or 1gz per core and when combined makes 2hz. New to the dual CPUs.Bill

2GHz per core.To also muddy the waters, certainly where laptop processors are concerned, you may also still come across Core Duo processors which actually pre-date Core 2 Duo and are in fact the 'old' Pentium Dual chips rebranded...
