I have a C2D chip on an MSI P35 Platinum board and have just had to reinstall Windows XP. I noticed on SiSandra that my OC'd settings are the same as before but on the CPU Temp program I use, the Frequency setting is lower than previous. Can installing the OS change the OC'd settings in the BIOS? I did not thing so but wanted to ask here.Mark.

Well I have now installed CPU-Z and it clearly shows that the CPU frequency has changed to 3.6Mhz from previous 4.0.Has anyone else ever had this issue ?Mark.

Do you have Intel's Speedstep enabled? This will clock down the CPU when there's very little activity and then bump back up under load. Windows shouldn't affect the bios settings in any way, shape or form. Frankly, I think I'd settle for 3.6 as I don't think it's worth it performance wise in the sim(s)to push to 4.0, considering the potential problems at that level. Kendall,Thanks for responding. I have been talking to my computer guy and he now tells me that the original overclock info I was getting may have been false data and the actual OC all along was 3.6. I am not discussing with him how to increase to 3.8 as this is a know stable setting.As for Speedstep, I have no idea what the setting is. How do I find it?Mark.

Sounds like you don't have it, but be aware it exists for future builds. Speedstep will reduce your cpu's frequency during low loads. On the Asus P5K, it's called (rather cryptically) "C1E." My clock drops from 3.6 to 2.4 when it's enabled. Fire up the sim and it rocks back up to 3.6. Nice feature,s actually.
