January 11, 200818 yr I guess X38 mainboards support 64 bit? I am contemplating one . . . January 11, 200818 yr Well, as you might see, I don't always know what questions to ask! Just didn't know if mainboards with that sort of mem capacity imply 64 bit support. I am looking at that particular mainboard. Can you give me your take on why that mainboard vs ASUS P5E? It looks like maybe the onboard sound or card is the main difference. I def do not need 8Ch audio. I DO want best components and quietest possible while full overclocking control. Also, do you mind explaining what sort of DDR2 I need to guarantee the memory will not be the limiter for o'clocking a Q6600? As much as I am attracted to the QX9650 the dang thing keeps going up in price and is really crazy high now. It seems like I better spend more bucks on GPU too. January 11, 200818 yr Author Thank you, this helped Regards, BoeingGuy ASUS P5E X38 | Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 3.2 GHz on 1600 MHz FSB (400x8) | 4 GB DDR2-800 RAM | EVGA GeForce 8800 GT Superclocked @ 679/979 | 320 GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 RPM HD
January 11, 200818 yr Author Hello,I have heard great reviews on overclocking this board from where I bought it (Newegg), with DDR2-800 like mine. I heard DDR2-1066 will cause the mobo to eventually die. So far, my father is going to only let me overclock to 3.0 GHz, but I want to go farther. I have heard people pushing a Q6600 to 4.383 GHz. January 11, 200818 yr I'm running a Gigabyte GA-X38-DQ6 (the DDR2 version, DDR3 is the GA-X38T-DQ6) with Vista 64 with excellent results. No SLI support, but does have Crossfire support. I'm no longer a big fan of multi-gpu setups having had 2 years of SLI experience under my belt with titles I can count on a single finger (ok, hand) having benefited at all.The OEM version of Vista only includes the DVD you order and has a no thrills box and scant install guide - so 32 bit OR 64 bit DVD, should you opt to get the hardware at the same time.I highly recommend when during dual boot that you use some kind of partition manager to manage your HDD rather than having Windows take that over for you with mixed results (eg, PartitionMagic and the like).Etienne
January 12, 200818 yr Someone on that forum posted that the Q9550 does .5 multiples. So, these are going to be unlocked?
