From NVIDIA 6600GT to 7600GT

Featured Replies

I now got a Palit NVIDIA 6600GT 256M DDR3 AGP. How much difference would it do in FS9 if I replaced it with a1) CLUB3D GEFORCE 7600GT 256MB DDR3 DVI AGP ( http://www.dustinhome.se/pd_5010101072.aspx )or2) XFX GeForce 7900GS 450M 512MB GDDR3, AGP8X, 2xDVI-I/Tv-Out, 450/1320Mhz ( http://www.komplett.se/k/ki.aspx?sku=343556 )Would it be in vane to get the more expensive 2) since I would be CPU limited and therefore not be able to use its potential? My systemAMD 64 3200+1 Gb 400 MHz RAMNVIDIA 6600GT 256M DDR3 AGPTwo IDE HDWin XP Home

I don't think much at all..... maybe to a 7900, but I'm not sure....do you play any other games? A better GPU may help, however you are limited by your AGP bus

it doesnt matter what card you choose cause they both suck, lol.

Wrong. They're both good cards, and so is the 6600.They're not highend cards today, but you have to remember that not everyone has $500 to burn on a graphics card to play a videogame. The 7600 is a quite decent card, but as already said the AGP bus will prevent you from getting the most out of it.

A better GPU may help,Yes I also play Oblivion and Medieval Total War II and I intend to get the coming total war title. I can see that these games makes my system struggle when they put the heaviest load on it.

In practical circumstances the AGP is not slower. For example I read a test comparing the ATI 1950PRO AGP and PCIe and the difference was negligable. It seems to be similary to SATAI and SATAII. The interface is not the bottleneck. Is it not rather my CPU that could prevent me from getting the most of a 7600GT? And if so does this not mean that going up to 7900GS is pointless since it won't be more powerful on my system?

The AGP is indication enough of more performance problems elsewhere. The GPU is the same, but it can't get its data fast enough when using an AGP based motherboard.Tests ALWAYS are to be taken with a massive grain of salt, and ALWAYS interpreted within their context.Seems in the test you read they deliberately tested only the performance of the GPUs and on-card busses, not the entire systems.

>The AGP is indication enough of more performance problems>elsewhere.Well an AGP system usually contains less powerful components compared to a more modern PCIe.>The GPU is the same, but it can't get its data fast enough>when using an AGP based motherboard.>>Tests ALWAYS are to be taken with a massive grain of salt, and>ALWAYS interpreted within their context.>Seems in the test you read they deliberately tested only the>performance of the GPUs and on-card busses, not the entire>systems.Well here is a link to the test in questionhttp://www.driverheaven.net/reviews/Sapphi...20AGP/index.php
