Motherboards: ACPI compliant?

Featured Replies

Hi,I recently just made a new system. I have had nothing go right with it since it got up and running. First a DOA Moboard, and then many issues since. The Moboard is the: Gigabyte GA-M57SLI-S4.I have been getting a "Motherboard is not ACPI compliant" message on a BSOD. In addition to that, I get "Windows Registry - the registry had to be recovered from file or log. Recovery successful"Along with those, BSOD's saying windows did not load so it could save itself. Also, a lot of times, the time is off when I start the computer, usually 1 hr ahead. Here is my system:Case: Sunbeam Transformerhttp://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx...N82E16811166004Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-M57SLI-S4http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx...N82E16813128014Video Card: EVGA eGeforce 9600GT 512MB Superclockedhttp://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx...N82E16814130328Power Supply: Thermaltake PurePower 600W w/ cable management.http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx...N82E16817153049HD: WD 640GBhttp://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx...N82E16822136218CPU: AMD 64 X2 6000+http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx...N82E16819103773DVD: Lite On DVD RWhttp://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx...N82E16827106247RAM: Corsair XMS2 2GB (1gb a piece)http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx...N82E16820145590

I think Acpi has at least partly to do with power control. If it were me, I would take out the video card, disconnect the DVD(power and Cable),make sure all 24 pins are hooked up from the psu to the MB.In other words, disconnect everything you don't absolutly need. Hook your monitor up to the MB. You might even consider clearing BIOS with the jumper so you can start from scratch MB wise. Do you have an OS on the hard drive already? If you tried to install windows with things messed up, well that's a problem. If you had a hard drive with windows on it that you could install instead, and your system booted, that would tell you alot. Then you could start adding things back in. Hopfuly someone who really knows well jump in, and help you.Bob

I installed windows fine. And then started having issues. I have a 600Watt PSU...which should be more than enough to power it. It always powers up fine. It has also ran with only monitor, vid card, and dvd drive plugged in.

Well, I guess you might try rechecking everything in BIOS, or some kind of recovery from Safe Mode. If you can get to Device Manager, that might tell you something. Yes 600w should be fine, unless it's bad too.Bob

The first (and easiest) obvious thing to do is replace the motherboard battery.A couple years ago I had problems with a system that was maddening at best. The system would usually power up and run just fine, even for gaming. But there were times when simply booting into Windows would be an adventure. The problems exhibited themselves most frequently when ambient temps were warm, but often when the temps were cool (thus making troubleshooting even more difficult). It seemed obvious that some component was sensitive to heat. So I replaced every single component searching for a solution. The last piece I replaced was the PC Power and Cooling 500W PSU (recognized by most as the best brand of PSU available). I even called them seeking guidance in trouble shooting the PSU. They made it clear that once the PSU was checked it could not be the problem... and it checked just fine. Finally, out of utter frustration and concluding that every other component had been replaced without a resolution, I dropped in a SeaSonic PSU and haven't had a single problem since.Trouble shooting a power glitch can often be difficult, akin to chasing a gremlin. It you have another PSU that you can try you should rule out power supply problems early on.Good luck,

I will try what you all have suggested. Thanks

I agree. Even though you have all new stuff, something is either not working at all or not hooked up right. The MB should pretty much configure most things automaticly. Keep us informed.Bob
