I Don't Remember Having So Much Video RAM!

Featured Replies

So here's how the whole thing got started:I was once browsing through the System Requirements Lab website and scanning my system to see which games I could play, just for the fun of it.So I started up the first scan, and I passed with flying colors. Except I noted that it said that my video card had 2.2 GB of VRAM.I didn't believe it. So I ignored it until today. I downloaded the latest MemStatus, and lo and behold! I look into the VRAM section and it says that my Total Video RAM is 2267 MB.The last time I checked, the standard EVGA 8800 GT certainly has 512 MB of VRAM, as per the NVIDIA website and my System Information Tool.Is it possible that my video card really does have that much? Or is it just a glitch? I know it isn't sharing memory--I still have all 4096 MB of RAM recognized. Not that I'm complaining :-lol, I just want to know what's going on.Thanks,

Regards,

Just a follow-up: I went into system properties and it told me that the VGA Shared with System Memory was 1791 MB. But I still have all 4096 MB of RAM. Or does sharing not work that way?Anyways, does this really mean I have 2.2 GB of VRAM?

My 8600GTS has 256 MB on board, but shows having 512 MB in Memstatus and DXDiag. As best I can tell, Nvidia uses a memory mapping technique called Turbocache that does indeed share systems memory as required. No idea if this is a good or a bad thing..

Yeah I've heard of TurboCache...don't know if the 8800 GT has it though. Dxdiag also shows mine as having 2267 MB.Oh well: It's not eating up system memory at all, and I have 2.2 GB of VRAM...what could be better? I'm keeping it this way. :-lolThanks,

Just curious: where did you find the VGA shared with system memory number?Edit by author: OK, I see you are using Vista...
