April 19, 200818 yr Hello--I'm looking to buy a yoke for use with FS2004 (I've been using a joysick for several years). I like the looks of the Saitek Pro Flight Yoke, but I've read on this forum and others that many yokes were released with a major "phantom button push" problem that rendered them nearly unusable.Does anyone know if this issue has been resolved? If I buy a Saitek yoke, can I be sure it will work, or is it still a total crap shoot?Any input would be appreciated!
April 19, 200818 yr I can only speak of my experience. I never had the phantom key press issue and think it had more to do with the SST software and the mode switch rather than a hardware issue. I don't use SST.I did have the bad luck of a hardware conflict with the yoke using 45% CPU. It caused such a large frame rate drop that it was unusable. Apparently, I was the only one with this problem! I suspect it was a conflict with the yoke's usb hub and PC800 motherboard. It works dandy with my new system and brings sim flying a little closer to real flying. I purchased mine from Dell and they will replace it, should you have a problem, so I say take the plunge! April 19, 200818 yr Hi,No purchase is 100% safe. Make sure that you buy the yoke from a honest company, that will either replace a faulty yoke or give you a refund.I've used the yoke for a long time and have no problems with it.Ulf B
April 19, 200818 yr I'd concur with 2little2late, the phantom key press problems seem to be caused by the SST software. I've never used it: As I installed the yoke and pedals, I just plugged them in, and let Windows recognize them as HID's, and after that, I deleted all the stick assignments in FSX, and used FSUIPC exclusively to set them up.I've been using mine for a few months now, and have never had any problems.regardsGrahame
April 19, 200818 yr Agree can recommend them... Of course you get what you are paying for I am sure the cirrus flight yoke priced ten times as high performs better but bang for the buck is hard to be beaten... It
April 19, 200818 yr Actually, it doesn't make a difference who you purchase through Saitek always stands behind their products. I purchased through Amazon and had one of the original serial numbers that were affected by the phantom buttons. It wasn't the SST it was the original batch of yokes that were affected. I had thrown out my packaging and everything and Saitek sent a new yoke and I sent back the defective one in the box they sent. They paid postage in both directions.I have to say it forever changed how I look at Saitek...So go for it!-PaulPrimary RigLiquid CooledIntel C2D E6600 @3.2 gigsAsus P5N32SLI-Plus2 gigs Corsair XMS PC6400 4 4 4 12 @810Dual OC'd XFX 8800GTX @ 2 gigs24 inch Widescreen LCD 16XAA/16XAFDual 19 inch LCD'sRaid-0+1PCPower and Cooling 1k Quad SLIhttp://home.comcast.net/~psolk/3monitorsa.htmlBackup RigAMD 4000 San Diego @ 2.72 Gigs Kingston Corsair XMS CL2XFX 7900 GTX Raid-0 Have a Wonderful Day -Paul Solk
April 19, 200818 yr Been heavy handing the Saitek X52 for years and the earlier version even longer.Problem with the yokes is lack of buttons, realism when flying helis or stick and ruddder birds such as old fighters.
April 19, 200818 yr I've had zero issues with my Saitek Pro Yoke (There were issues with the yokes when they were initially released and Saitek made some firmware changes to correct those issues). Its a vey nice controller for the price. Throw in an extra throttle quad and you have a very veristale setup for FSX. I use a Thrustmaster Hotas Cougar with an Uber II mod and hall effect ensors for all my Helicopter and Stick Type Aircraft flying. It's not going to be a crap shoot you should be quite happy. Is there a chance you may get a defective unit....yes. There is not one product manufactured that does not exhibit some type of infant mortality.
