May 4, 200818 yr Occasionally, I get a Blue Screen and shutdown. I read somewhere else on a thread about "checking Memory Sticks". How do you do this? Should I remove them and take them somewhere to be checked? Can it be done without removing them? Thanks.
May 4, 200818 yr Check it with Mem Test..Or remove all but one stick and boot...Try the next stick(same slot) and so on and so on..till you get one that will not boot..then its bad.....
May 4, 200818 yr Yep, Memtest86+ (http://www.memtest.org/) is probably the best way. It found a intermittent problem for me a few months back, where the system would work fine for a while, then just lock-up periodically or CTD in FS. I memtested each stick individually, and it found errors on one. Replaced and all is fine now.Kylehttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/747400.jpg Kyle Main Sim PC: P3D v5.2 & MSFS 2020, i9-10850k @ 5.0 GHz, ASUS Maximus XII Hero, ASUS TUF-RTX3080-12G, Dell U3011 30" IPS monitor, G.Skill 32GB 3200 Trident Z 14-14-14, Samsung 512GB 960 Pro NVMe (OS), Samsung 2TB 970 EVO NVMe (Sim), Win 10 Pro 64, Yoko Yoke, Saitex Combat Rudder Pedals, Honeycomb Bravo Throttle Quadrant
May 4, 200818 yr Author I checked out the memtest site, and it seems that there are many choices for download. How do you know which one is correct....if you are not that technologically sharp with those kind of things? I'd like to try one of the tests, but I sure don't want to have boot problems, or something else.
May 4, 200818 yr Hi,If you have a floppy drive, click the url "Download - Pre-Compiled package for Floppy (DOS - Win)" and download the zipfile. Unzip the files to a temporary directory. The readme file contain further information:1. Format a floppy and leave the floppy in the drive.2. Run the install.bat file (one of the unzipped files). The commandfile will prompt your for what drive to install to.3. Reboot with the floppy in the drive. Normally your BIOS settings should be set to boot from the floppy drive. If not you have to change the boot priority in your BIOS.4. When you boot from the floppy, memtest will start automatically and start running the default memory test. Will take some time.Hope this helps :-)Ulf B
May 4, 200818 yr What is the error code you get with your BSOD? Just becuase you are experiecing a BSOD does not necessarily mean you have a memory issue. I would first research exactly what the blue screen error message is.
May 6, 200818 yr Author That's a good idea. I will try to write down the error code on the next BSOD I get....hopefully then, I can get more specific advice.Thanks.
