ATI Radeon X800 XT drivers

Recommended Posts

Would appreciate any advice on the current preferred driver version for the ATI Radeon X800 XT video card. Have not updated the drivers for my card in quite a while....did not want to assume the latest version was the most desirable. Thanks very much.Jeff

Hello:I use the same card in the All_In_Wonder AGP 256MB VRAM version.I have been able to load the newest (since Catalyst 7.1) versions for AGP cards only by the following procedures:Uninstall completely "ALL" ATI components in the Windows Add or Remove Programs applet; reboot as needed until ALL ATI listings are gone!Uninstall any older Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x86)Now:1.) Be sure that the following are installed and updated:Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package (x86)http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=enMicrosoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86)http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=enMicrosoft .NET Framework 3.0 Redistributable Packagehttp://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=enDirectX End-User Runtimes (Latest=June 2008):http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=en2.) Download the latest ATI Catalyst Drivers from:http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html3.) During the 1st re-boot after starting ATI display driver install, "cancel" the installation where possible and allow Windows XP to load generic drivers during Plug-N-Play.4.) In Control Panel > System > "Hardware" Tab > Device Manager find the device with its "?" yellow question mark icon; double-click to open the device Properties.5.) In device Properties > "Drivers" Tab, click "Update Drivers" 6.) Hardware update Wizard opens; follow prompts, choose Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)7.) Choose "Don't search, I will choose the driver to install"; click "Have Disk" 8.) Browse to C:ATISupport{Latest ATI Driver Version Folder}DriverXP_INF and select the appropriate *.INF filename9.) Click open, then click Next; ATI installer should run and finish up, then exit; a reboot will likely be prompted.10.) After reboot, install & configure Catalyst Control Center:Browse to C:ATISupport{Latest ATI Driver Version Folder}CCC and "Run" Setup.exeThis "Alternate" procedure should allow the proper linkage of the DX9.0c software subsystem with the AGP hardware/software subsystemNOTE: The "default" ATI-provided installation routine has NOT been working properly for AGP on many computers since Catalyst version 7.1 ...and occasionally on versions since 6.9.Hope this helps! :-) GaryGB

Hi Jeff:Glad to help!;)..I can't tell you how much time I've spent on the phone at inter-country long-distance rates with ATI Tech Support since the 1980's for the many cards I have from them, trying to wade through up to 16 different technicians until finally reaching (1) that had the right answers. :-violin ..So I like to spare others the stress and expense when I can. :-sun1. ..Don't get me wrong, I'd still prefer their products over those of NVidia, but somebody (PLEASE!) just give me 2 minutes in a locked room with the driver programmers... to have a little "chat" about their installers! :-8...PS: If you use any of the other peripherals like the Remote Wonder, check for a newer driver on the ATI driver selection web page picklist under "Remote Wonder" (instead of Radeon or All-In-Wonder card) at:http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.htmlThen you'll also need to reinstall the ATI CD/DVD hardware acceleration driver components off of your CD that came with the card; their licensure of that driver software seems to require validation of the fact that you have the physical CD as proof of purchase before it will install....If you have any further questions related to your "driver update", post back here again; or look me up over on the simFlight Forums, and I'll see if I might of further help. :-bigangel GaryGB
