October 3, 200817 yr Hi guys,I am building a new systemaround windows vista ultimate 64 bit and i know that in the past i read something about turning of user account control or something like that, i don't know exactly what it was.Can someone help me with this.Best regards,G Best regards , Gérard van Veldhoven
October 4, 200817 yr The following is from Windows Vista help:--------------------------User Account Control (UAC) is a feature in Windows that can help prevent unauthorized changes to your computer. UAC does this by asking you for permission or an administrator password before performing actions that could potentially affect your computer's operation or that change settings that affect other users. When you see a UAC message, read it carefully, and then make sure the name of the action or program that's about to start is one that you intended to start.By verifying these actions before they start, UAC can help prevent malicious software (malware) and spyware from installing or making changes to your computer without permission.---------------------------An option to turn it on and off can be accessed from Control Panel>User Accounts.ArtBiostar TF560-A2+, Athlon 64X2-6000+, 4GB RAM, Geforce 8800GTS-320MB, 500W PSU, 250GB HD, FSX(SP1-SP2), Audigy SE sound, Vista Home Premium 32 bit, CH Yoke & Pedals, 22" WS LCD monitor Art
October 4, 200817 yr And what Art quoted also means that YOU can not alter programs. You can not go to an airplane cfg. file to make changes. When you try to save you will get an message saying that you don't have permission to alter files. You could open Note Pad first, browse to your file, make and save changes. Or you could install FSX outside the Program Files folder. Or you could turn off UAC.Bob Bob i5, 16 GB ram, GTX 960, FS on SSD, Windows 10 64 bit, home built works anyway.
October 4, 200817 yr Author ok ,What if i make another program files folder on drive D for fsx does that make a difference for changing the aircraft cfg.Best regards,G Best regards , Gérard van Veldhoven
October 4, 200817 yr Or just install to D. It will make it's own folder. Of course you could make a new folder anywhere to put programs in. Not sure what the trigger is. You might want to name the new folder for your programs just "Programs" or "My Fun Stuff" or "Stuff The Wife Doesn't Know About" or...Bob Bob i5, 16 GB ram, GTX 960, FS on SSD, Windows 10 64 bit, home built works anyway.
October 4, 200817 yr When you create your user account, it needs to be as an administrator to avoid not being able to make changes.ArtBiostar TF560-A2+, Athlon 64X2-6000+, 4GB RAM, Geforce 8800GTS-320MB, 500W PSU, 250GB HD, FSX(SP1-SP2), Audigy SE sound, Vista Home Premium 32 bit, CH Yoke & Pedals, 22" WS LCD monitor Art
October 4, 200817 yr ArtI have the lowly Home Basic Vista. I am the only user of this computer. I am logged on as Administrator. With UAC on I can not make changes to my files. Is that one of the differences between mine and higher versions of Vista? Or am I doing something wrong?Bob Bob i5, 16 GB ram, GTX 960, FS on SSD, Windows 10 64 bit, home built works anyway.
October 4, 200817 yr Using Vista Basic shouldn't be the problem Bob. What exactly happens? Do you double click on the .cfg file and it opens in notepad and then it won't let you save it after making a change? Or what? I have UAC turned off, so I can't exactly simulate your situation.ArtBiostar TF560-A2+, Athlon 64X2-6000+, 4GB RAM, Geforce 8800GTS-320MB, 500W PSU, 250GB HD, FSX(SP1-SP2), Audigy SE sound, Vista Home Premium 32 bit, CH Yoke & Pedals, 22" WS LCD monitor Art
October 4, 200817 yr I was under the impression that you said that if I was logged on as administrator then I would be able to make changes. I turned on UAC and tried it and it didn't work. I have UAC turned off normally.Bob Bob i5, 16 GB ram, GTX 960, FS on SSD, Windows 10 64 bit, home built works anyway.
October 5, 200817 yr >I was under the impression that you said that if I was logged>on as administrator then I would be able to make changes. I>turned on UAC and tried it and it didn't work. I have UAC>turned off normally.I turned on UAC and see what you mean. With UAC on, you can make changes to a file outside documents only after giving permission by right clicking the file, selecting properties, selecting the security tab, and editing permissions for yourself. All the time with the UAC prompt repeatedly asking you if you really want to do this. No wonder I turned it off. Once you set permissions for that file, windows will no longer give you a hassle, even with UAC on.ArtBiostar TF560-A2+, Athlon 64X2-6000+, 4GB RAM, Geforce 8800GTS-320MB, 500W PSU, 250GB HD, FSX(SP1-SP2), Audigy SE sound, Vista Home Premium 32 bit, CH Yoke & Pedals, 22" WS LCD monitor Art
