October 16, 200817 yr I want to get some more RAM to go along with Vista x64, which I installed recently.Currently, I have 2x1GB of Corsair DDR2 XMS2 ram, matched pair of courseShould I just buy 2x2GB of the same RAM, or is there a cheaper pair out there that will work fine. I'm not overclocking my current CPU either. Also, instead of more physical ram, would the ReadyBoost feature do anything for me for FSX? I think a 2GB flash drive would be cheaper than 4 GB of physical RAM. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
October 16, 200817 yr What's the DDR rating on your current ram? For instance, here's some DDR2-800 stuff. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820227210An additional 2x1 set would be cheapest. Readyboost was a bust. Go for the additional ram.
October 16, 200817 yr Author Ok, wasnt sure if you could run all 4 DIMM slots at once..The ram I have is this I believe:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16820145034Could I just buy that stuff again and Vista would recognize 4GB? October 16, 200817 yr Oh yea. Grab it quick. Just pop it in. It'll work fine. However, if you are running a 32bit op system (for the sim to actually use it), ya gotta have at FSX plus the 3G switch enabled. Otherwise the 32bit op system will still limit FS's use to 2Gs.
October 16, 200817 yr Hey Ryan,You got me thinking. So I turned everything back on to use ReadyBoost. I have a 4GB flash drive that I set up to use RB. I'm flying around LA in FSX. Can't say that it helps any, but the light on the flash drive never stops flashing, so it's doing something. In FS9 it doesn't flash very often. There is nothing like real ram. There is nothing like a ton of CPU.Bob Bob i5, 16 GB ram, GTX 960, FS on SSD, Windows 10 64 bit, home built works anyway.
October 17, 200817 yr Author I have one more question, before I go ahead and get it....rebates are annoying sometimes, and to be sure I get mine, I want to make sure the rebate listed is indeed VALID for this product. The PDF download at newegg states that the model TWIN2X2048-6400C4 G is for the rebate. The RAM is spec'd on newegg as the TWIN2X2048-6400C4. (notice the lack of the "G")I wonder if there is a difference, or if newegg screwed up...Here's the link to the rebate claim info:http://images10.newegg.com/uploadfilesforn...t3108ll97us.pdf | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
