CH vs Saitek

Featured Replies

ok, so for Xmas my folks said i could get either 2 Saitek throttles or 1 CH prod TQ. My question is which should i get? I am already using the CH Prod yoke and Rudder pedals, and love them, but i think im going to get the Saitek as it looks to have more range of motion and such. I have a few questions about the Saiteks:Do they make nice with other CH products, like my yoke and rudder pedals? Is their range of motion as good as it seems, also:Is it as vertical movement on it as it seems? Is there a detent for reverse thrust? is RT easy to setup- note: i have FSUIPCanything i should know about?Sam

I have two Saitek throttles quadrants, the one that came with the Yoke and another that plugs into a USB port. The problem I have found with both of them is the potentiometers get worn or dirty very quickly which gives you spikes in the axis. In other words, when you advance the throttles, there are spots along its travel that will spike to full throttles. I was able to use an air compressor with a special pointed tip nozzle to force air into the pots and it did get rid of most of the spikes, but not all. They should have used higher quality pots.

The obvious benefit from the Saitek x52 HOTAS is flexibility. You can fly helis, fighers, vintage old warbirds and newer planes with that use a stick. If ALL you fly are GA or airliners, a yoke and pedals are nice.As far as quality.I have a heavy hand and my stick has met my wood floor many times,It has lasted 2 years.A drop broke the hat switch on my original. As with any electronics, a dust free enviroment helps but in my case I use one of the air dusters and a rag to keep them clean. If I get 2 years out of my latest x52 I will consider it money well spent considering its cost vs useage.

well i really am just looking at the throttles, and only those two, as i already have a yoke and pedals that i love.

I've never used a Saitek throttle, so I can't help you there. But I HAVE used a CH throttle quadrant for several years. Advantages - 6 programmable axis (so you can simulate prop twins or up to six jet engines independently) and 12 programmable switches on the unit. Add that to your CH yoke, and you have so many switches that you won't be able to remember how you programmed them all.As far as durability, no problems at all. I would however, recommend that you purchase FSUIPC so that you can fine tune those axis (axises?) :)

I've been using two Saitek throttles with the CH USB Yoke and pedals for a while now. I do not use the software that comes with them. I do you FSUIPC for setting everything. If and when my CH yoke or pedals go, I might think of Saitek, with the overall decision being made on price. If you do get the Saitek throttles, I'd cover them with a cloth when not in use. Or make and market "Saitek Thottle covers" ;)HTH,

as anyone tried a force feedback joystick, whats your impressions?
