AMD vs. Intel

Featured Replies

Hi. I've been out of simming for about 4 yrs., but am wanting to get active with it again. In the past I always had good luck with AMD processors, but don't see much about them mentioned in these hardware threads. Is AMD still a viable altenative? The last computer I had built up about 4 yrs. ago had a Gigabyte K8N Pro MB, Athlon 64 3GHz.(I believe) processor and ATI Radeon 9800 Pro video board. I was running FS9. What kind of performance could I expect when using this setup with FSX?Thanks for any help.Jeff

Not nearly as good as Intel today. AMD is dying out.

with that system you will not be thinking of "performance" but rather "slideshow"

Thanks for both comments. Unfortunately, your answers were about what I figured.Jeff

I have a AMD system myself (a 1.8GHz Sempron) and performance with FS is fine for my needs.

Don't count AMD out of the game yet, folks.Phenom II is just around the corner (due out in January), and it's going to be a much better chip than the original Phenom.

You'll want to upgrade, especially with the new Core i7's around the corner from Intel...I ran FSX on my AMD3700 and it sucked hehe....I don't see how the guy using the sempron could even run FSX...He must have most things turned down or fly in rural areas.
