j/kI will be one of the first to jump in and correct when I see something that is not presented correctlyHowever what Avcomware posted is correct in the context he describes. Nothing he posted was misleading with the explanation he provided and he is a professional who I do respect in his opinion.Although I do understand why you may feel passionate about jumping in when you see information posted that is skewed based on your personal experience what Avcomware posted above and how he presented it is, and, it does have basis in fact. Although one could go into why that 9650 or a cheaper 9550 with E0 stepping would provide an advantage so the OP has all the information that may need to make an informed decision, what you are doing with the above post is not in any way closing the situation and Avcomware did not state anything in the context of his presentation on the subject which was untrue. As I clearly stated in order to get the advantages the processor does present, one must know how. You are accessing that processor in a way most do not from a standpoint of clocking and a correct set of variables for latency. In that, what you see and what others will who do not follow perf guidelines in tuning will be different.I dont think Avcomware deserved that response from you and I am not going to go back and forth with anyone in this thread about the advantages to the processor in question. Avcomware is perfectly aware of the similarities and where the advantage comes from, and, where the processor falls short and could have been much better in design.

and one other thing j/k and this goes to everyone tooYou cant use FSMark or any other FPS test to judge a driver, processor or other change in FSXThere is way more to FSX than frame rates and such assessments must be made from a quantified set of tests many of which are visual basedI have seen drivers that present frame reductions smooth flight over scenery and I have seen drivers that increase frames by 2-5 which make IQ drop and scenery pop and stutterProcessor changes and evaluation of their benefit to FSX must be performed very carefully and with solid knowledge of the sim and what is going on. In that, I can prove there is a defined (but not massive by any means) benefit to the 9650 over the Q6 clock per clock but I am not going to go into it.... its not worth the back and forth here anymore.FSX is too complicated to take a 'frame rate' test and place any value in it alone

And he did it on a topic that you yourself previously backed me up on. You might not think so but I do:"It just seems that people will say something, that really has nothing to do with OP tread, just to confuse the situation, for some reasons that I fail to understand."and "Not some cats that have more money than they know what to do with."THAT'S why I responded the way I did. As Avcomware is someone who has your respect as an accredited (sp?) authority, I'll be more careful in the future. -jk

I never advocated judging FSX performance by any benchmark. In fact, That's what I've been trying to argue against all this time. I'm trying to dispute the claim that is being made here over and over:"cheap, older parts will get you the same performance as expensive, newer parts in FSX" and "memory speed has absolutely no affect""Those who spend money on faster memory, cpus, and graphics cards are throwing it away because there's no difference" and that equates to "we're stupid and we don't know what we're doing"All those little insults over and over are what draw me out here. Nick, I'm swear I'm trying...TRYING to bite my tongue. And I'm successful...until I read "only the layman spends money on faster, better parts because there's no difference". I'm paraphrasing but that's just bulldookie.I hope you can understand and not cut me out of the "Circle of Trust". -jk

But I had to say one more thing:I don't mean to debate processors. I respect the OP's question. Everything I'm arguing over is because of the "utterly subjective with the little frowny face attached" remark that was posted early in the thread. I came out against that and everything snowballed from there.-jk

Avcoware . . . (sorry, I claim old persons brain/madcow/ on names now a days),First, I sort of lost the main topic of the post also with all the replies it has gotten . . . if you compare the dollars spent and what it will do, the 6600 is sure a bargin. For me, the price didn't make a difference, as I was doing my once every 5 years, (LOL) computer updates and had budgeted for this CPU . . today I would have to buy the 6600, as the economy sucks even more than the horse business. On the subject of the throttle........YES, it has worked fine since the day you sent it to me, had to replace a pot earlier this year but other than that, It's been perfect.....and I can't tell you how much Iappreciate you doing so. If I did not send you the freight, then I'm a real louse, LOL. Free hardware and no freight, they ought to whip my backside for that one!!! On a serious note, I cked my records, (I make a record of everything, I'm from that old school), and I believe that was put into my wife's hands to take care of . . . since you have NOT gotten it.......Please e mail me and give me your addy and the amount again, and I'll expidite that too you imm. I've been around this hobby for years and would not want anyone to think I don't do what I say I am going to do......and thank you for calling my attention to it. As I have yet to talk with the wife, I am assuming that is what happened....(far be it for me that I would ever forget anything ROTFLMAO), but please, send me an e mail and I'll take care of it right away.....a thousand humble apologies, Sir.Don't forget to include your reg addy. [email protected], the chip was the right one for me, and I dare say I might want to read the ENTIRE thread from now on. Best to you and yours, and good talking with you again.Clayhttp://www.dreamfleet2000.com/gfx/images/F...ers/Dopke01.jpgClayton T. Dopke (Clay)Major, USAF (retired)"Drac"

Hi "Drac""I claim old persons brain/madcow/..". I hate to admit to it but I am the same way, but I am saved by the writing it down, 25 years in R&D, all my life in Electronics and Aviation, I got to write things down, for my own sanity. Not to worry the effort to find out what the charges were, outweigh the reward. If it makes you feel any better, you are not the only one, there are quite a few over the years, it's a lot easier to remember when you give than when you receive. Have a good Holydays and tell your wife, it's gift from me. If she thinks it's too cheap you may want to match it, or triple it, whatever it takes, you don't want her to be upset over the Holidays, it has a way of trickling down. TV
