February 5, 200620 yr 1.Has anyone used CorelDraw for painting aircraft?2.Are we allowed to use some of the logo's from "Brandsoftheworld" with paintkits?3.Can these logo's be used with some of the paintkits? i.e. are they the right format?4.May a painted aircraft be added/uploaded to the CSL squawbox library eventually, or can you do that now?Mike @ Wizard AirlineWZA01
February 5, 200620 yr 1) CorelDraw although not on the level of Photoshop or Paintshop Pro is adequate for repainting.2) Brands of the world is a known resource for painters, I'm not 100% on the legality but generally I doubt there is a problem with using them.. I'm sure many repainters have. It states you're supposed to email the author before using it but I doubt they would mind.3) The logos I believe are in eps, they should be able to open fine in Corel. However they aren't vector, so manipulating them will degrade the quality (ie - enlarge).4) I have no idea what a "CSL squawbox library" is :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Here is an EPS file opened (and resized to 800 pixels wide) at that resolution:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/142079.jpgHere is the same EPS opened at 300 DPI:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/142080.jpgYou have to be careful not to go crazy with the DPI increase though, because the memory size of the image grows a ton when you up the DPI.You see in the pic of the dialog box the image at 72 dpi is 147.3k, but at 300, it's 2.4mb and 9.9mb at 600 dpi!! So just be careful when increasing DPI (300 is a good number I've found.) ;)Some EPS files do not scale well (must have been drawn small to start with), but the majority I've used (and that is a LOT), work fine.Regards,Steve Drahttp://img47.photobucket.com/albums/v144/S...Dra/banner1.jpgDownload my planes at Avsim here:http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID...&Go=Change+View Regards, Steve DraGet my paints for MSFS planes at flightsim.to here, and iFly 737s hereDownload my FSX, P3D paints at Avsim by clicking here
February 16, 200620 yr Hey Steve, nice to see you :)Thanks for the heads up, I haven't used eps files much.. I'll have to have a closer look at them in Photoshop. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'll>have to have a closer look at them in Photoshop.Good to see you too.I imagine painting GA you don't have the need to grab logos as much as airline painters do...your stuff I guess is mostly free hand. ;)I'd be interested to know if Photoshop gives you the option to specify the dpi of the eps file when opening it. I imagine it does, it's a pretty standard graphic function as far as I can tell. Its always good to check the accuracy of the logo against a picture before you release a paintjob.I've found that some of the logo's are not as accurate as they could be....perfect example being the TRANS WORLD text I used off an EPS file. The "R"s in the text were wrong, and I didn't notice until I previewed it and a sharp eye caught it on the screenshot forum. :)Regards,Steve Drahttp://img47.photobucket.com/albums/v144/S...Dra/banner1.jpgDownload my planes at Avsim here:http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID...&Go=Change+View Regards, Steve DraGet my paints for MSFS planes at flightsim.to here, and iFly 737s hereDownload my FSX, P3D paints at Avsim by clicking here
February 16, 200620 yr The most I usually come to using a photo is to use it as a trace, sometimes I need to take/create logos but thats fairly rare. I've also used images to create paint kits in the past (working on an Aeronca Champ one right now)Just checked out eps files in Photoshop, you're right its pretty much the same screen:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/142102.jpgThey do come up nice and big when you increase the res.. thanks for the tip. I'll add it to my mental library :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
