January 25, 200818 yr I need help with a RR (Rolls Royce) aircraft engine repaint. If I use tha attached JPG (copy of the .bmp) in a Level-D "RR" Model aircraft. I do not know how to attach the two actual bmp's for your review. When I view the aircraft (spot view at airport) I see the left engine with the RR logo on the inboard and outboard sides of the Left engine. The right engine has no RR logo on it at all, inboard or outboard side. What I think I need to get the engine repaint fixed is:Get the engine image in the lower left of this bmp rotated clockwise and pasted into the the upper right corner of the bmp.Get the image in the upper right corner rotated counterclockwise 180 degrees and moved to the lower left corner of the bmp. Then I should end up with both engines with a RR logo on the outboard side.Is this possiple to do?I have no experience in making this type of modification to a bmp file? Can it be done like with a Microsoft paint program? January 26, 200818 yr Author I tried to bring up the bmp file in MS Paint but all I get is a white screen .. like it loaded but no picture to edit.I do not know .. what to do to get the engines displayed in the MS Paint program? Best Regards, Vaughan Martell PP-ASEL KDTW
January 26, 200818 yr The image you attached shows the bmp as DXT3 format. You'll need to save it as either 24 or 32bit to work in any painting software :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
January 26, 200818 yr Author Leen,After my last post I tried to bring up a stock aircraft's engine bmp using the MS Paint program ... it loaded ok!So, your reply is what I needed to know. Thanks a lot for the answer.I will go try to convert it and then see if I can edit it without messing things up .. I will get the original bmp backed up first. There are two bmp's for the engine. The one with the picture of the engines and another that is the night texture bmp for the engine ... it displays as just as a full black image ... all other engines do the same .. so I assume it will not need editing .. do you happen to know if this is true? Best Regards, Vaughan Martell PP-ASEL KDTW
January 26, 200818 yr Author After changing to eg 24 bit, get the editing done, save it in the paint program. Then bring it up in another program to resave in DXT3 format? Best Regards, Vaughan Martell PP-ASEL KDTW
January 26, 200818 yr After editing bring it back up in DXTBmp and save it as DXT3. Doing this however will reduce the quality. Thats why its always a good idea to work from a paint kit :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
January 26, 200818 yr Author Ok,I managed to get the original converted to the format for MSPaint.Edit in MSpaint >> I think it loaded it as a DXT1 image here.During editing I drew a selection line around the engine, cut it, pasted it to a temporary file, reloaded the the tem file image, rotated it, saved it, copied it, the pasted the now correct image back into the Master engine image.I made a mistake during the edit .. something to do with choosing transparent or opaque. So, when I loaded the aircraft with the edited enging.bmp ... some areas that should be blue are white.See attached jpgsSaved itWhen I loaded it with DXTBMP it came up as a filename-BMP-DXT1 1024x1024 image .. so far so good.I saved it as extended ... I think?I did not know how to save it as DXT3 ??? That is my current problem. Best Regards, Vaughan Martell PP-ASEL KDTW

That will do little jobs from time to time.I may be in over my head here but I have made progress so far. Thanks totally to you much needed and appreciated help with getting this engine back on the right wing with the correct logo. January 26, 200818 yr Author Morgan,I replied to a couple of your posts above and used Leen's name by accident ... sorry about that.Morgan, thank you very much for getting me on the right track.I did "finally" understand how to get the DXT3 saved from DXTBMP program. It did lessen the quality like you said it would.Anyway, now I have the Rolls Royce engines on my Level-D AAL.Still need work .. I have a lot to learn abour repainting!I will look into the various areas of this forum to get an idea of what I am in for.I attached a JPG of where I am at now .. no perfect but workable. Thanks again,Best RegardsVaughan MartellKDTW/LD763/VATSIM>After editing bring it back up in DXTBmp and save it as DXT3.>Doing this however will reduce the quality.
