Why is FS2002 so underlit?

Oh yeah - that cloud add-on I used is really awesome! And the very best is, as long as you live, it's free! :-lol LOL Oh dear, just get outside and see by yourself! Heheh... but anyway, today there was again such nice sunset so here the next buncha pics... Enjoy! :-hahEtienne :-wave(PS. Although this ain't the SS forum, you still may please post comments! ;-))

Hopefully thats something MS takes a hard look at on the next version. The entire sim has an overall darkness to it,its much to dark at sunrise also, although that could be partially fixed by just shifting the times that the sunrise palettes are called up.I've always compared the overall brightness/gamma of the sim to being outside during a total eclipse of the sun,the sun is out but everything takes on a much darker look,or its almost like having very dark sunglasses on.Here's hoping they improve on that in FS04.David

Huh? I get the most gorgeous sunsets at KLAX around 5 or 6 pm, with the sun over the ocean - bright oranges and purples - very beautiful.Don't know what's different about our setups...Hope this helps,-- Tom GibsonCalifornia Classic Propliners: http://www.calclassic.com/Cal Classic Alco Page: http://www.calclassic.com/alco/Freeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.com/ San Diego Model RR Museum: http://www.sdmodelrailroadm.com/Drop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

OK, I checked on things. In your screenshot the sun is still too high in the sky. IRL the sun has to be almost at the horizon for the beautiful colors (see the RL shots in this thread). I think this is actually closer to RL than FS2000. I took this shot at dusk at LAX:Hope this helps,-- Tom GibsonCalifornia Classic Propliners: http://www.calclassic.com/Cal Classic Alco Page: http://www.calclassic.com/alco/Freeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.com/ San Diego Model RR Museum: http://www.sdmodelrailroadm.com/Drop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

The sunset is only colorful when the sun is almost at the Pacific horizon. A few minutes earlier and it's just a dirty blue. What display setting affect overall lighting or brightness levels? In the hardware settings, lighting only refers to aircraft lights.Eytan

But this is true in real life too - if the sun isn't right on the horizon the sky will still be blue (assuming no smoke or smog). There are no settings in FS to control brightness - use your monitor's brightness control or change the gamma in the video adaptor properties.Hope this helps,-- Tom GibsonCalifornia Classic Propliners: http://www.calclassic.com/Cal Classic Alco Page: http://www.calclassic.com/alco/Freeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.com/ San Diego Model RR Museum: http://www.sdmodelrailroadm.com/Drop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___
