FSX Revisited?

Featured Replies

Considering that the release of FSX Service Pack 2 is imminent (which will include DX10 support and other performance upgrades), and that we've got a significantly larger percentage of simmers using FSX than we did six months ago, would the developers be willing to reconsider making the TinMouse compatible with FSX?

Putting in hundreds of hours of work so the TinMouse can fly in the FSX virtual desert wasteland at low fps with wacky winds just doesn't seem a good use of my limited time.I've given FSX several chances...it's sorely disappointed me each time. I'll probably go back and try FSX a few more times as some of the daunting problems are dealt with.I don't see any more movement towards FSX happening until and unless I can conclude that FSX is sufficiently worthy as a platform to justify the work porting the 'mouse over to it. That includes needing solutions to a myriad of problems associated with migrating from XP to Vista in order to use DX10. And I don't see any more work on the model being done for an FSX upgrade--what we have now was a gift of work already performed for a commercial project that never got off the ground. I think Terry has since moved on.If it ever happens, I think we're years away still.RegardsBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VSantiago de Chile

I'm very happy with FS9 AND the TMII. Rather than try to configure the TMII for FSX, I'd rather see work continue on the FS9 version. I know that this is going slow presently and that is understandable...RW always takes priority. When I ask about updates/improvements, etc. I'm most certainly not trying to be "pushy"...just looking for news. That's just me, of course, but the statement "If it ever happens, I think we're years away still" might as well be about me getting FSX!! :( Thanks for this fine bird, Bob.

You have to wonder whether Microsoft is in the process of cutting its losses with FSX, since they announced (and reported here on Avsim a couple of days ago, I think) that they were looking for programmers for the next iteration of FS.Like others, I'm still more than happy with FS9, for many reasons (not least of which is the fabulous TM2!). Everything I've got attached to it works like a dream on my XP (service pack 1! Yes!) setup. I continue to read the nightmare scenarios about Vista and what doesn't work on it, so I'll stay where I am for the foreseeable.Terry Gaff's models are terrific - and no wonder, if they were originally destined for payware - didn't know that.So thanks again Terry and Bob, for a great plane combination.;)

Thanks for your compliments. They are appreciated, even if I'm a bit late saying so. ;-)I just fired up FSX again this weekend, this time with the new SP2 installed. Unbelievable as it seems to me, we just took another half step backward. Lots of FS9 models that were ported over and working in FSX are now dorked and but good. After a couple frustrating hours struggling with FSX SP2, I fired up FS9 for a sanity check, and it sure looked good in comparison. I'm seriously considering uninstalling FSX for the duration now, and even if I do not, I will not be buying any more add-ons for FSX (I have very few now as it is).I think it's safe to say now that I will not be porting the TinMouse panel to FSX...ever. With FS9 and the add-ons available in that environment, there's really no need.RegardsBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VSantiago de Chile
