Determining 32 bit textures?

Recommended Posts

Hi all-Is there a way to determine if a particular aircraft is using 32 bit textures? I have a couple of aircraft that have that 'pause on loading' issue and am wondering if it's because of hi-res textures.Thanks.Mark

Have a look inside the a/c texture folder and see if there are any BMPs that are around 4 megabyte each. If so, these are 32 bit textures. I reduce all my a/c textures from 32 bit to DXT3 textures . Much easier on my system and I can't see any difference in quality.Barry

newtie,I'll add that basically if you can see thumbnails or previews of the textures in your texture folder (assuming WinXP) rather than just seeing your default icon for a .bmp file, you can assume the textures are 32 bit. DXT3 textures won't display an actual thumbnail, just the icon. Also, if you try to open a DXT3 in Windows Picture & Fax Viewer, you'll get a "Drawing Failed" error.I convert all of my textures too. It helps a lot.Jim
