Upgraded pc and still having probs?

Recommended Posts

Hi there, I have upgraded my pc, it now has 2gb memory and radeon X1650Pro graphics card. It is a pentium 4HT.Early last year I was running FS9 fine with 100% ai traffic (Ultimate traffic) at big airports like heathrow pro, but the last half of the year it has gone down hill? At the time I only had 1gb memory and had an Nvidia FX5500 graphics card, which I had when I bought the pc.I have only added on a few aircraft since it was running ok and cant figure out the sudden downturn in performance? Can anyone help?Kind RegardsGavin Moss

>sudden downturn in performanceGavin,What exactly are the issues your having, since that statement is pretty broad. Loss of frames, stutters, CTD's ??

hi thanks for getting back to me. I have very low frame rates, they are usually around 6, and get the occasional stutter when flying, this is with most sliders to the left as well.Kind RegardsGavin Moss

Hi Gavin,Sometimes when changing GPU's strange things can happen like what you describe. How did you uninstall your old GPU? Have you used drivercleaner to remove all the old traces of the previous Nvidia Forceware before (re)installing the newer version Forceware?. Also after reinstalling did you re-install DirectX too and have you let FS rebuild its FS9.cfg?

Is this an AGP or PCIe card? You definitely should run something like Driver Cleaner and Nasty File Remover after uninstalling the nVidia drivers and before installing the ATi ones. If you didn't recommend you uninstall the drivers, run the utility, then reinstall. Some basic hardware settings also may need revisiting when switching cards...especially from nVidia to ATi or vice-versa. In particular, AGP aperture, if it's an AGP card. If AGP, also, PCI latency could be a factor.But...could be something completely unrelated to the Video card is at play. Might be worth running a general PC benchmark like 3DMark to see if your upgrades have caused a non-FS specific issue. Adding RAM, for example, can cause some mobos to lose dual-channel capability if the new RAM modules are a significant mismatch with the old. Could be any number of things also at play.RegardsBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VSantiago de Chile

AGP aperture settings are generally set in your system BIOS...it's motherboard specific.PCI latency is set using one of a number of utility programs...I use the freeware LtcyCfg2...a web search should turn it up. Often video driver installations will push up the PCI latency on the vidcard so high that it crowds out other devices when compteting for the CPU's attention. With a nVidia 6800 Ultra and a SoundBlaster Audigy 2ZS, I have mine set at:nVidia 6800: 128Audigy 2ZS: 64Everything else that's non-zero: 32Also, I should note that this is generally an issue for AGP cards only...PCIe video boards do not reside on the PCI bus so latency balancing isn't likely a problem.RegardsBob ScottATP IMEL Gulfstream II-III-IV-VSantiago de Chile
