FS9 Will Not Hold Video Settings

Featured Replies

I have tried but still have not solved this. I have a ATI 9800 XT card and have made some adjustments to Anti Aliasing, AF Filtering, etc, to help improve my display smoothness, but once I return to FS, they only hold for that session or two. When I reduce FS to taskbar and return, or close and return, the settings revert to what they were before I made changes in FS.(Flashing, Glistening, etc.) I try to reselect in ATIs catalyst window then return to FS, and the changes may or may not take effect. It's inconsistent and I can't figure out what's wrong. I do not have Anti Aliasing selected in FS, just in the ATI panel, and none of the "let application decide" boxes are checked. I also do not have temporal AA or Adaptive AA selected. They didn't seem to make a difference anyway. Please help. I would like my consistent smooth display back in FS.

Have you checked whether other programs have the same problem. Myguess is that this is an ATI setting problem since the ATI-catalyst settings are for the drivers to the card (and settings for the hardware) and are not effected by any applicationthat uses the display. As a first recommendation is that you go to the ATI site and updatethe drivers for your card. . . and are you using any screenshot software? I went through three of four screenshot programs, and found that the next time I launched FS I had the full-on purple smudgey blurries. The only way out of this was to uninstall and then reinstall. I have to add that the 1950XTX has had three new drivers in as many months, the latest (I think) being 7.1, build 40211. This is stable without too much in the way of flashes everywhere. I found that when not taking screenshots I had no problems: as soon as I took a screenshot I was into the above reinstall process. I tried Gadwin PrintScreen and have had no issues whatsoever. I don't know whether this is conincidence - drivers or this app - but I'm not going to go back to find out. This setup works for me. Hope this helps.

I had a similar problem about a year or so ago. My card is an ATI 9600XT, at the time I was always tweaking settings and upgrading graphics drivers as soon as they were released. However I found that all ATI drivers after version 5.11 would give me problems with settings not being 'remembered' in FS9.I went back to the 5.11 drivers and everything was back to normal. I would also avoid installing the catalyst control center.....it's was a real resource hog on my machine.Phil
