April 13, 200719 yr "I'll spend some major time with the sim, and as you have thoughtfully posted, will buy an inexpensive electric ARF model to start with and practice actual non-simulated control. The others that I have posted in wanting to persue will wait beyond this one."Mitch, I promise you, you won't regret it. Time spent learning the basics of R/C flight and safety will pay off handsomely in the long run.In my club all novices are supervised until they can accomplish 5 takeoffs and landings safely and unassisted. Then, you are on your own with all the responsibilities that go with it. In fact, just like the full scale equivalent!I can well remember that first flight without my buddy (safety net?) alongside. It was a nerve wracking as well as being an exhilarating experience. I couldn't stop talking about it for hours afterwards :) Again, I am sure parallels can be drawn with the novice pilot progressing along the road to earning his/her PPL.Cheers!Mike
