March 9, 200323 yr Does anyone know if the newer models of these aircraft fly by wire?It seems if Boeing continues to develop the 747 they would move in this direction. Anyway I was curious. Thanks Andrew Andrew
March 9, 200323 yr No, Andrew, the 747-400 models all use conventional hydromechanical flight control systems.
March 10, 200323 yr I know the 400 isn't FBW, but the 400ER may be, Boeing has certainly followed Airbus in both FBW and common cockpit configurations (now the 737NG, 767-400, 777 and 747-400ER have the same layout). It has a good deal of weight saving benefits, so I wouldn't be surprised if they put it in.xiphanopoulous

What common cockpit layout? What does that have to do with FBW? Best Wishes,Randy J.
