September 11, 200718 yr Hi,How to update FS9 in order to use new navaids and approach patterns? There is a freeware user-created add-on scenery (AirHispania SC) that updates these items for many Spanish airports. For example, it includes a new ILS for runway 27 of LEAB (Albacete), but:- it isn't shown in the frequency list for the airport in the default GPS (but it's shown in the FSNavigator map)- you are not given the option for an ILS approach, but just a visual approachThanks in advance,JAMM --- Simmer since 1984. September 11, 200718 yr Navaids and approches are two separate things in FS9. Simply changing/adding/deleting a navaid will not affect any approaches associated with an airport. It's necessary to create changed approaches separately. From what you say, I suggest that the add-on scenery developer hasn't written new approaches to match the navaids. Gerry Howard
September 12, 200718 yr Author Hi,Thanks for your answer. You must be right, but the question is where are approaches defined and what tool can be used to implement those missing. Also, what is the strangest thing is that the new ILS frequencies are not listed in the info list for the airport, but they are there (you can tune them and gauges work when used). --- Simmer since 1984. September 13, 200718 yr Thanks for your answer. Approaches have to be nested in the airport header. To add a new approach, the old approaches and the new approach need to be coded in XML and compiled into a separate file.Search for the name Jim Vile in the Avsim Library to see how some can be done. There is no tools - only writing XML code by hand with real world approach plates, a knowledge of how real world approaches are written and coded, and a familarity with lessons learned on FS BGL coding.Adding a localizer to an airport runway is easy. But the approach is what the ATC and GPS see - not the runway properties without the supporting data. That's how people mess up airport airspaces by adding an ILS and not adding an approach.Check the Scenery forums under XML coding at www.fsdeveloper.com if you want to learn more about writing approaches.
September 15, 200718 yr Author Hi, ReggieMany thanks for your valuable response. I will do as you advise. I have downloaded some airport mods by Jim Vile and will try to gather the info needed to insert the missing approach procedures. --- Simmer since 1984.
