installing FSX on same drive as FS9

Featured Replies

Greetings all,I am sorry if this has been asked before but a friend just gave me his copy of FSx and I wanted to try it out.Can it be installed on the same drive as my fs9 folder or will it cause a conflict?Best regardsAndrew

Hi Andrew,Been using both FS9 and FSX on same drive since FSX came out. Starting using FS9 on my master drive © but later had to move it over to a new USB drive for extra space. FS9 and FSX are now on my USB drive and working with no problems or conflicts. Since I still use both a word of caution ..you need to be careful not to install any addons to wrong simulator. Hi Carl,Carl, in using your USB drive, have you noticed any stutters or delays when FS9 or FSX is updating and reading from the drive?I was wondering this as I also have one---500GB and had wanted to offload the same as you. Thanks,Mitch

Mitch,I am using a USB 2.0, Maxtor-300gig, 16mb cache/7200rpm. It is about one year old so there may be some better ones available now. You need at least a 7200rpm and good cache. I have not noticed any stutters. On occasion there will be minor delay (~1sec) when loading some complicated scenery. I do not think that has anything to do with both sims on the same drive but your computer hardware. Carl
