December 23, 200817 yr For some reason when reverse thrust is selected the red ENG FAIL warning light illuminates. It is extinguished once the nosewheel touches down.Does anyone know the reason for this. Is it just a bug?Martin Neep
December 24, 200817 yr Just an uneducated guess... reverse thrust shouldn't be deployed until you have nose wheel on pavement for directional control. Dan Downs KCRP
December 24, 200817 yr Wow you must be on the reversers early considering you have to wait for them to unlock first. Pretty sure the fact the plane in not down properly before reversers are applied is the ENG FAIL trigger in this case. It may see it as FAIL because at the time the engines cannot provide forward thrust while the plane isn't completely down.Jay V. Jay Vorkapic
December 24, 200817 yr Just an uneducated guess... reverse thrust shouldn't be deployed until you have nose wheel on pavement for directional control.Sorry, but that's not true. You should select reverse thrust immediately at main gear touchdown. Reversers are armed when RA is below 7 ft or wheel spin up is greater than 80 knots. Reverser Interlock is removed from engine 1 and 3 when the reversers are safely deployed (more than 60%). For engine number 2, there is no interlock, but thrust increase is prohibited util nose gear tochdown and reverser is more than 90% deployed. This helps to lower the nose during landing.About the Red Engine fail light. It should only illuminate during take off between 80 knots and v1 if any engine N1 differs more than 11% with any other engine. So it shouldn't come on during other flight phases. Floris
December 24, 200817 yr Thanks Floris. I appreciate the correction... I'm still learning. Dan Downs KCRP
December 24, 200817 yr Whatever it was, I've sorted it. Selecting the default aircraft (c172) and then re-loading the MD11 has reset whatever was causing the problem. Thanks anyway for your help guys!Martin
