I always prefer to do a cold start, but for the life of me have never been able to find an option in create flight that sets this preference.Is this offered?

For default aircraft, simply switch everything to off and save the flight.For addon aircraft this might be the same, but not always. For quite some addon aircraft there is a "cold & dark" option in the configuration utility.Hope this helps.Regards,Frank

Be sure to save the flight as "default flight"By the way .. it's also a addon available on Avsim for set automatically a "Cold and dark" plane.Cold and dark

File Description:A very small file to give you a cold dark cockpit with everything switched off. The virtual cockpit view should also default to 0.64 as this gives the most realistic experience of speed etc.

In case you fly more complex aircraft, save as a default cold and dark the king air or baron parked at the ramp. Set your instruments as you wish as this will be the default for create a flight and some devices (including the engines) even if you load another saved flight. I also recommend your default flight be set with the Clear Weather theme (necessary for Active Sky and other weather manipulation programs).
