A good Athens (LGAV scenery?

Featured Replies

I have the offical Olympic Airways AI package from Project AI and since FS2002 didn't include the new Athens airport (LGAV) I need a good LGAV scenery to download. Which LGAV scenery is the best? I seen one here on avsim by George Dorkofikis (file name is lgav2002.zip) is that a good one?

That's the only freeware scenery of LGAV currently available for FS2002. Unless you want to go for a commercial product like Greece2002, which in IMHO is a total waste of money.Be sure to download the latest update for LGAV2002 from here:http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID...scen&DLID=22902You will also want to download a small fix of Dionysos mountain by Kyp Biris from here :http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID...scen&DLID=15954This will eliminate that nast 'Menir' like peak at the north of the LGAV.And of course there is the AFCAD file for LGAV by Panos Georgotas:http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?CatID...afcd&DLID=15321Regards,George DorkofikisAthens, Greece

George, Hristos Anesti,I can indeed testify for the great work you have done for LGAV, I have, however, a minor issue with it. The road leading to the airport (Attiki Odos) is displayed white, which I guess means that I am missing a texture. Is that a problem with the latest update or is there something wrong in my installation? Thanks,Vassilis

Alithos Anesti! No, you already have the texture and you only need to do a simple rename.Rename hwy*.bmp to attiki*.bmp and it will be fixed.Or is it the other way around?... Hmmm... I always forget this and I'm at the office now and can't check... Anyway, check which one you have and rename it to the other... That'll do it! :-)It's only a minor mistake in the last update and I decided to leave it that way until the next release istof reloading yet another fix and making a total mess...Cheers,George DorkofikisAthens, Greece

Oh, I thought i was the only one checking avsim forums from the office... :-hah Thanks for the answer and keep up the good work.

Definitely George's LGAV Scenery. When we had our PIC on Vatsim flyin at Athens, we used George's Scenery and everything was exactly as the Charts. Absolutely brilliant for a freeware offering.

Thanks all :-) I downloaded the scenery, updates, and the AFCAD for LGAV and everything works good. But on the FS2002 airport menu it has 2 LGAV airports. One is listed as Venizelos and the other is listed as Athens-Venizelos. How do I get rid of one of them?

You must have another scenery with that airport added-on. There is no LGAV in the default FS2002. You can delete the reference using AFCAD's Catalog/Delete option.I've got a question, though. What happened to LGAT? Is it closed, or is it being used for regional / local / GA traffic?

Well this LGAT picture tells everything ....http://www.airliners.net/open.file/339862/M/The airport is closed forever as they say. :-(North Part is already in the works for preparations on Athens Olympic games 2004 installations. The south part is used as exhibition space and car racing grounds.Take a good look at the picture's right side (South).Olympic Airways disused 732, 722 and 742 (one of each) are still there and we all hope they will become part of an aviation museum as they say.As you can see half of the runway is still there and again we hope that as some say some time in the future LGAT will reopen as a GA airfield. The Apron oil marks on the right are from the "slaughter" of the 727s few months ago when they cut them apart for scrap. Check LGAT and 727 in airliners.net , they're all there photographed during the demolition.LGAT airport was too close to populated area by now and its further development potential saturated. Circumstances made LGAV (10nm East) obligatory. We all reminiss those excellent cafe hangouts with aircraft spotting in the area. There is still "Aeroporto Cafe", a 2nd floor terrace just behind the 747-200 tail you see. For those who fly online , this is where the SquawkBox intro. picture (OA A340 landing on 33R) was taken from ;-)Ohh BTW, in LGAV to have proper gates display use Panos Georgota's file. which replaces a smilarly named (but not same) by George.Kyprianos Biris :-cool[link:avsim.com/greece/hvacc]Hellenic vACChttp://vatsim-eur.org/images/VATSIM-EURs.gifhttp://vatsim.pilotmedia.fi/statusindicato...tor=OD1&a=a.jpg

Part of the deal with the German constructors (and operators on time lease) of LGAV was that there should be no operational commercial airport within a fixed radius from it (I don't recall the exact distance) and LGAT was in this radius...

Hello George,Great LGAV2002 Scenery.Wonder if you can help me with an 'installation' problem, please? When loading LGAV2002 I get the following Error Message ="Scenery Library objects not found, this may cause some scenery, such as buildings, not to display".ID: 0x 7E606285, 0x 4472A6D9, 0x 960A80B4, 0x D56BEF7D.It seems to me that I have 'missed a file or something, I can still use the Airport; but am wondering which building is 'hiding' - not the Pilots Pay Check Office I hope? :)KenSomerset, England
