It was that close...

Interesting and sobering read...bthttp://spaceflightnow.com/shuttle/sts119/090327sts27/The exhaustive attention NASA now devotes to making sure shuttle heat shields are damage-free and safe for re-entry is a direct result of the 2003 Columbia disaster. But a blacked-out military flight 21 years ago still stands out as a warning to astronauts, engineers and managers, a frightening "close call" that had the potential to bring the shuttle program to an early end. It was that close.

They need to find or develop another adhesive that will keep those tiles on the vehicle during an impact.

I think they should use cornflakes and milk to glue the tiles on the Shuttle; if you've ever left a bowl unwashed for a few hours after eating that for breakfast, you'll know that it is the strongest adhesive mix known to man. :( Al

So true..... That is why when I have to wash my parents dishes I get freaked out. "Hey son, you missed a spot." "What is that I see? A brown spot on a boll. :(" Lol. I kid, I kid.

...and if one of your kids leaves the bowl in the back seat of your car over the weekend, in the Phoenix sun...I do believe it could survive reentry. :( Ron
