April 6, 200917 yr Hi, I'm in the same boat as you. My system is similar - AMD 64 X 2 4200, 6800 cs 512mb video card.I'm also considering a new sustem and will be interested in replys you get. What is your current power supply rated (wattage)? I've be been happy with AMD and would consider staying with them. Good luck. Howard
April 8, 200917 yr I think that would be good value. I realize not everyone can go to a Core i7 build (preffered) and I've heard good things about the AMD 940 II. If you could go for the i7 side of things I'd get a 920, 6GB of DDR 3 1600 ram and a good cooler so you can overclock it at least to 3.6 GHz. | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
April 8, 200917 yr Would another processor be a better value if you didn't want to overclock? Thanks Howard
April 9, 200917 yr Maybe, the Intel Core i7 920 is pretty good but then you need a newer motherboard, and more pricey DDR3 RAM to go with it.... | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
April 11, 200917 yr Hi,If you consider Core i7 920 and intend to overclock, you should wait for the 920 D0 stepping. http://www.anandtech.com/weblog/showpost.aspx?i=584This version will overclock more easily and you shouldn't encounter the problems with some batches of the C0 revision.
