BGL Question

Featured Replies

Does deleting a single default BGL remove only one airport or does it remove more than that? I have been trying to remove a default airport, and my excludes don't seem to work so I resorted to removing the BGL linked with that airport, but I want to make sure I didn't remove anything else. Thanks!(Replacing the default airport with a reworked version of my own, including a new identifier code - cannot get the original one to disappear unless I remove the original BGL)

Hi,If you are removing the BGL file from the default FS scenery, than that will delete all airports in that region. There can be dozens in one BGL file. What kind of exclude did you make? It should be possible to get rid of an airport with an exclude.

If the world should blow itself up, the last audible voice would be that of an expert saying it can't be done.

Well that's not good... haha. I saw mentions of having a "type" of exclude but I don't understand it because I am using ADE, and there is just one Exclude button with options of what to exclude (I selected everything). The original airport still shows up though, so I don't know why the exclude is not working. I just now thought of this - does it matter what "layer" the exclude is on when building the scenery in ADE? I.e. does it need to be below all of my scenery for it to work?

The exclusion rectangle is designed to remove buildings and library objects. It will not work for an airport. The delete an airport using ADE (make it invisible) load the stock airport and delete everything that belongs to the airport by selecting it and using the delete key. This will ensure that all the airport elements and buildings don't show up. At the end you should just have the airport reference point left plus any items like ILS which cannot be deleted. Note that when you try to delete a runway that has stock ILS associated with it ADE will warn you that it is not a good idea but you can go ahead. Make sure also to remove all taxi links, nodes, starts etc etc.You will also need to remove the airport background polygon. To do this you will need a Terrain Polygon set to exclude airport backgrounds. This needs to cut the airport background which can't be seen in ADE. However if there is a fence around the airport this usually follows the background poly. So draw an exclusion polygon that crosses the boundary fence. If needs be you can check the size and location of the airport background using TMFViewer that comes with the SDKThen go into Approach Mode, select Approaches from the List menu and delete all the approaches as well. Now compile your project and place the bgl file in your Addon Scenery/scenery folder. An alternative which gets to the same place (if you are confident with XML) is to create a simple file that has nothing in it except the airport data and an airport delete record that deletes everything. This pretty much what you end up with in ADE although this won't remove buildings and the airport background. The airport will effectively be gone. Please note though that it will still show up in the airport list in FSX. There is no way to remove the Airport name etc other than deleting it from the stock bgl file and that is not a good ideaJon----------Microsoft Flight Sim MVP
