HP LP2475W 24" 1920 x 1200 monitor users: impressions?

Featured Replies

I just bought a Dell 2209WA and it is really a lovely panel. Very uniform brightness & color--just top notch. Not quite as sharp as my .255 pixel pitched 1600 x 1200 Samsung, but it's really very nice. The problem is--it doesn't do 1600x1200, and that is a resolution I much prefer for TW2004 which I use alot--as much or more than FSX, for many years now. This title is not supported for widescreen resolutions, so it will default to 1280 x 1024 which really looks both not as clean and too small on the new Dell 1680 x 1050 screen. Had a 4:3 1600 x 1200 Samsung that was just right for that title. I'm trying to decide between picking up another 4:3 1600 x 1200 screen (about $420 from Amazon) or going with the HP LP2475W. After a few days of not liking widescreen in FSX, I'm beginning to find it nice. Everything is just bigger and that looks more natural, 2d panel stretching aside. If you have used the HP LP2475W if you could post your impressions that would be awesome. Areas of concern:Input lagText sharpness1600 x 1200 image quality (when selected via the software running--try it with FSX as a full screen mode and see how it looks for image quality)This display is "wide color gamut" and is purported to be problematic with non-color aware software (games will have over-saturated colors, maybe shifted as well). How is this for you?I appreciate your input,Noel

So far I've been very satisfied with the LP2475w. I ended up buying a color meter (X-rite Eye-One Display2) and have had very good results since I calibrated it. My only ###### is I wish that they would make a decent IPS monitor with a glossy screen instead of the matte finish. After gaming on CRT's and my 1080P HDTV I prefer glossy screens and they seem to provide better image quality. I'm not finding any input lag or ghosting issues with the games I've tried on it so far. There is a very long thread on the HP LP2475w over at Hardocp, I suggest you read through it -http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1326971

Thanks again Dj. I have gone thru many a post on that gigantic thread, and became dizzyingly confused by it! I thought I read that the LP2475w controls brightness by pulsing the backlight off rhythmically. You're not seeing any pulsing/flickering, are you? I just wish I could see one in person. Sounds like a super display though.I guess it is possible to obtain a color profile for it and get closer to acceptable, true? Sounds bad out of the box. Perhaps you could forward one on to me, though I don't know how that method works. I won't buy a color meter or software to make a display adequate or perfect. I'm not using this for photo work. Just want to be good for my apps. I imagine I could just wing it and set the various parameters within windows or use powerstrip, which I currently use. I'm ok with matte finish tho glossy would be great too. I am most concerned about sharp image crispness, having been spoiled by 1600 x 1200 x .255. For a 1680 x 1050 screen, this Dell's a total gem, right out of the box! I would recommend it in spades for people seeking this type of display. It is an e-IPS panel, and really seems nice, esp for $234 delivered! Can you do me a huge favor? Do a screen print of the XP or Vista desktop in 1900 x 1200 resolution and send it to my email? Do the least compression you can. [email protected]. I'd like to see a browser on that screen to. One think that sucks wind with this Dell resolution is scrolling thru a browser. 4:3 at 1600 x 1200 was better in this area. I'm still on the fence and may go with another 4:3.

I'm also thinking about getting a new monitor, and read about the necessity to calibrate them. I came across this web site, which offers the Syder3Elite calibrator for rental by mail: http://www.borrowlenses.com/product/Other_...tor_calibrationHere is their rental policy: http://www.borrowlenses.com/page/aboutSeems to be a good option compared to actually purchasing one that you won't use that much.Mike A.

Thanks D for the prints. I was struck that they did not appear oversaturated at all. Hard to tell tho with the specific imagery displayed on those two prints. I also read that color calibration will not really resolve the oversaturation in non color-aware software or OS. Tell me how you feel about the color/saturation . . .I definitely agree you got the screen for low input lag and fast (enough) g2g. Pixel pitch is the best available at 1900 x 1200 capable displays. I'm really on the fence as my workspace will require a rearrangement, not in itself bad but it's just right, currently. I have some midi-gear and so forth so it's nice to have the thing set up this way.I am still unsure about widescreen. It looks like you end up having to scroll much more over my 4:3 screen. That seems like a negative for sure. I guess the key there could be decreasing the point size of the screen fonts.
Noel,The prints I sent you were actually taken with my ATI 4870X2 setup connected to the LP2475w without color calibration, so it is a little too saturated. I should be getting around to calibrating it with the ATI card this weekend. I
