Should I upgrade the Video card or CPU?

Featured Replies

Ok so on FSX, I like EVERYTHING high, not just ultra settings, but everything maxed out. I like reality. Anyway, everything MAXED out runs great in scenic areas, but the second I go into LAX or JFK, it lags quite a bit. My specs are:XFX 9800GTX+ 512mb AMD Q9550 2.2ghz (quad, for my multitasking)8gb's of memory(4-2gbs)vista home prem. 64bit and etc. Now, I here this game likes a good cpu, and doesnt take advantage of SLI?So with that SAID, my question is, should I upgrade the CPU? or GPU?. I can spend about 200 dollars, and that's it.What do you guys suggest? I'd like a smooth FPS when flying through Los Angeles or New York, with settings maxed out. Thanks guys, any suggestions would greatly be appreciated.

Upgrade the CPU to something with more Ghz (minimum 3.0 Ghz, the more the better). But you still won't be able to run everything maxed out.

Ok well I just OC'ed my CPU to about 2.5ghz, everything is running fine...I mean the fps is very flyable in LAX and JFK....I don't understand why everyone says "YOU STILL wont be able to run everything maxed out..."I'm running everything maxed out and the game is running fine. little fps drop in Los Angeles, but very flyable.

It appears that you need to write a tutorial so that the rest of us can have the same experience.

LOL. I think he meant AMD Phenom 9950. I also have the same CPU, but different GPU, and memory.

doesnt matterwhat people do not understand and I have to repeat every so often is you can have the sliders "maxed out" and FSX will decide based on the resources available to it what to SHOW and what NOT TO SHOW and how WELL it shows what it does displayin that many do not know what they are not seeing even when sliders are pushed up and you see them post "Im MAXED OUT"Seen this over and over again since since the day FSX was releasedand that is one of the primary reasons the frame counter can never be used exclusively to establish performance.. its not just the frames.. its MORE about what SHOULD be on the screen for the settings in play WITH smooth result and that establishes perf in MSFS. If the users does not know what they are missing or what is wrong with the image.. they assume what they see is MAXED OUT... the frame counter just fools them further into thinking their perf is excellent.... till they install Manhattan X and run it on MAXLOL!

In the Boonies sure things will run great ... I ran close to default for a bit as I tweaked with stuff in the frequent 100's...this is again the boonies so I tweaked to see just what I can get..gradual tweaking it got there somehow. I'm at a comfortable 50-60 FPS with LevelD and CS C130. I don't dare this at Manhattan or London...accidentally did and went under 10 so tweaking is done for when I'm in more populated..Definately not maxed.
