73" HDTV Reverts to 1/4 Screen XGA In Game

Featured Replies

All,Since this is my first post I'll follow proper etiquette and introduce myself. My name is Ryan Cunningham and I've been playing flight sims since I was pretty young. I'm now a 2nd Lt Marine flight student currently in Primary flying the mighty T-34C. I downloaded the Alphasim T-34C for FSX in an attempt add some realism to my chairflying and feel that there is a definite benefit. However, I've run into a bit of an issue. While I have no problems running FSX on my laptop, issues arise when I attempt to hook it up to my tv in the living room. I start the game and the tv remains in 1080 when I have the HDMI chord connected, however, once the actual game starts running, i.e., in the cockpit, my tv reverts to XGA and the display shrinks to about one quarter of the normal display size. I've searched/read a lot of topics about running multiple displays, etc, etc. I've even downloaded Powerstrip, but unfortunately am not very adept at using it. If anyone can gie me some guidance on how to best utilize the full size of my 73" tv while chairflying, it would be much appreciated. Thank you.-2nd Lt Cunningham, USMC

Ryan,I'm afraid I can't help you with your problem.I do have a question though.Just how far back do you have to sit to take in a 73" screen? :( :(

Dean, About 6' or so. The closer I am, the more I have to develop my VFR-scan. :( I actually had issues with being too focused on the instruments and not spending enough time outside the cockpit during my first flight or so due to my growing up on flight sims that had the instruments taking up the lower half of the screen. Its not a bad setup though.

Hi Ryan,If there's anything you can do about correctly setting the display resolution for your monitor it will be in the Settings/Display/Graphics dialogue. Under the section called "Device-specific options" you will see a drop down box called "Device:" where you can set the resolution for each of the ports on your graphics card. Mine lists "NVIDIA GeForce GTX 280.0" through to "GTX 280.3" because I've got two graphics cards. You should be able to set the resolution of both monitors there. Also, you may have noticed that this is the Tips and Tricks forum where users post the solutions they've found to their problems. Questions are usually asked in the main FSX forum.Good luck, and welcome to AVSIM.
