Anyone know why this file in the windows folder gets so big? Currently mine is 18GB !!!!!!! My windows install has grown from 24GB to 37Gb in the last 2 days!!!! And it just seems full of wierd hex files. Surely something not right here. is there any upper limit on how big it gets and why ?

Mark,This file is not a component of system restore. Hopefully this explanation from a MS Engineer will help better explain the WinSxS directory for you. It is a vital component of the OS and major problems can arise if you mess around deleting files or folders within the directory.A commonly asked question among people looking at a Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008 installation is

AAAAhh, I see !!! And that explains the recent increase in size, as I just installed service packs 1 & 2. Well, then really, I need to think about a much larger partition for the Operating system, as it now. Thx for the info, Mark
