June 1, 200917 yr I will be getting a new computer with Vista Premium Home Edition SP1 64 bit OS. I would appreciate any advice on moving my FS9 installation from my current XP system machine to the new unit. Some time ago David Marshall posted a tutorial on migrating FS9 systems but I can no longer locate it. Could it be reposted please?Tom NickersonCYLW
June 1, 200917 yr I find for me personally and to save headaches to do it from scratch. And to do it in order, for example. PMDG 737 600/700 then the 800/900 then the 747 and then the patch, you get the idea....Save your CFG files you have edited and any sounds and so on. Al Stiff

I just went through 10 painful (yet rewarding days) with a new computer setup. I too transitioned from XP 32-bit on my old rig to Vista Ultimate 64-Bit on my new. First of all review this forum for some great tips. Second, take a look at the following tip at:http://www.simforums.com/forums/forum_posts.asp?TID=29041Although primarily about tweaking for FSX, you can get superb results in FS9 from Nick's nHancer (if you're getting a Nvidia video card--recommend GTX 285).The learning curve on Vista 64 was steep for me since I was only familiar with XP 32 bit. Microsoft released SP2 for Vista 64 bit a few days ago...so I would start there...update your O/S first. Let the O/S do its automatic updates as well up front, then you can turn off, along with windows defender, and the user account control--those all hide in the background. I run with AVAST as an antivirus and purchased registry defender along with O/O defrag--you will need those to tune your system to its max potential. What I recommend is work big to small--get your O/S and drivers where you want them...then do a fresh FS9 install. Recommended by many others is to create a folder on your root C:/FS9 and do a custom install of FS9 to that folder; or a separate driver D:/ as opposed to the default which is C:/program files (x86)/microsoft games/fs9. Setup your display settings etc...don't set a resolution above your native monitor resolution. After fresh install, I'd do a defrag with O/O by name.Be patient...I ended up doing 5 complete installs of FS9 plus all my payware scenery, aircraft, AS6.5, etc etc. I mentioned this in another post, if you are getting an Nvidia card, use Nick's nHancer settings in the link above. Anytime you change your video driver, uninstall and reinstall nHancer and build the FS9 video profile again (Nick's settings are for FSX but worked brilliantly in FS9). Once your baseline FS9 is installed then I recommend building your environment before adding aircraft/airports--I do UT, FSGenesis, GE Pro (so I've got my textures/mesh), then do FE and AS6.5 for cloud/water color etc and weather (I also use FSelemental and Real Environment)...once your environment is built go to FS9.cfg and tweak your terrain settings and whatever else you had--light scalers etc. Then start adding aircraft--I'd do them one by one, and then check them out each time in FS9...keep a log...that way if you get a dorked up result...it's easier to trace back to a likely culprit.SO much more on this site and plenty of great advice...I used it extensively in my cut over.Good Luck!Rich PerryIntel i7 965 Extreme Quad Core (3.2Ghz turbo overclocked to 3.8Ghz)ASUS p6T X58 MOBOOCZ 6GB DDR3 1800Mhz RAMNvidia GTX 285 2GB GPUVel Raptor 300GB SATA HD 10000rpmSB Xi ExtremeDell 24" 1920x1200Vista Ultimate 64-bit (SP2)TrackIR4, CH Pro Throttles, Logitech Extreme joystick, Plantronics headset (PMDG (all), Level D, Wilco Airbus, PIC 737, tons of addon payware airports, AS6.5, UT, GE, FE, SB4, FSelemental, Real Environment Pro)
June 2, 200917 yr Hi, I also have some questions. computer:P5KC motherboardQ6600, 2.4GHz,Gigabyte GTX 260 896MB,4GB of Mushkin 800MHz DDR2Because of ram I moved from XP 32 bit to Vista Ultimate 64bit. With XP and FS9 I could get at some places over 100FPS but I can't get over 40FPS now with Vista. In both cases I used NickN Nhancer settings, same fs9.cfg and display.cfg tweaks and same graphics settings in FS9. I use newest drivers for my graphic card (185.85 or 8.15.11.8585 as seen in driver description). And also I have less addons now as before in XP.I set FS to run in compatibility mode for Win XP and disabled visual themes and desktop composition.Greetings,Matjaz N. I also experienced that in windowed mode I have 30FPS max but in full screen I have 60-70 in default Cessna but I experience some weird dificoulties when I open new window as IvAp or just press alt to display menu bar.I hope someone can save me :)Matjaz Matjaž Nebec IVAO Slovenija http://ivao.si/en/
