June 2, 200917 yr Hi, I was wondering if one could find memory leaks using Filemon? Does this make sense? Thanks in advance for your help, regards,Macs :)

June 2, 200917 yr Author A memory leak in what? A third party program or one you created yourself? I am ashamed to admit I do not know a single bit about what I am talking about. I have done some "googling" around about the subject, but cannot find anything I could use in my case, besides I am not an expert on the subject either. I have read on other forums that sometimes crashes in FS are due to memory leaks and are somehow related to corrupted or improperly made files. I asked about this subject here in the hope somebody would guide me through this area. I say this since I have checked my hardware (CPU, G.C., memory, etc..)and it appears to be nothing wrong with it. I have also updated drivers, both G.C. and sounds, cleaned up my hard drive, de-fragmented my hard drive, ran FS under TSR "cleaning" programs, removed and re-instated scenery areas (one by one), removed and re-installed add-on programs like FSInn, and I still get this "Cannot read from file" error message, with CTD's associated to it every so often. I cannot make a full re-install at the moment as I cannot find my FS9 installation discs, I only have disc 4. Also, I wanted to see if there was another way to pinpoint and possibly fix the problem so that I do not have to fight commercial add-on vendors for re-installing rights again, for stuff I've already paid for. I mentioned filemon, since this program gives you a detailed account on what is happening behind the scenes while programs are running. Like I mentioned before this is a shot in the dark for me as I am not familiar on how all this works. The problem I have is that the error pops up in a random way, regardless of geographic location. Now, regarding your specific question, I guess the closest answer would be 3rd party. Many thanks for your help, regards, Macs :)

However are you saying that FS crashes with an out of memory error and reports a specific file as being responsible? Jon ------- Microsoft Flight Sim MVP Airport Design Editor FSDeveloper.com
June 18, 200916 yr I am not familiar enough with FileMon to know how you might use it in this case. However are you saying that FS crashes with an out of memory error and reports a specific file as being responsible?Hello:See my reply here:http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?showtopic=250669FYI: Most memory leaks in FS9.1 patched version of FS2004 are due to placing a paired "\Texture" sub-folder under the same top folder along with a "\Scenery" sub-folder which contains a "landclass"-type BGL (may contain "LC" or "landclass" somewhere in its filename). There may still be a few other causes, which I don't recall at the moment (-file read error in my own organic memory system perhaps?) :( Hope this helps! :( GaryGB
