June 6, 200916 yr Hey,Does anyone know how to make or modify aircraft in fs9?????If yes , then how and what program. :(
June 6, 200916 yr Yes, it's called,"FS Panel Studio found at : http://www.fspanelstudio.com/. You can addor modify gauges from one aircraft to another or learn to do it manually by adding simple gauges first. You have to study the panel.cfg to learn how it's set up. jerrycwo4
June 6, 200916 yr You've got a few options. The cheapest option is to use G-Max, which is a free, chopped down version of the commercial 3D modeling program, 3DS-Max. G-Max is often used by people to create aircraft models and scenery for FS9 and FSX (both commercial stuff and freeware). But, it has a fairly steep learning curve, so don't expect to be churning out a masterpiece in a matter of days. It will probably take a couple of weeks of practice with it to get reasonably capable with it, assuming you're fairly okay with that sort of thing. But it does have a lot of tutorials available for it, including some that are built in. You can find G-Max on the CD/DVD for many versions of FS (although usually only the 'pro' versions of FS). You can find G-Max as a download too.A more sensible option in terms of how quick you can learn it if you are not massively familiar with 3D modeling (although not free), would be Abacus' FS Design Studio, which can also be used to create aircraft for both FS9 and FSX. FSDS is a great program, and you can get stuff done with it fairly quickly, since it has a lot of very good tutorials built into it and walks you through a lot of the stuff that requires a bit more tinkering when doing stuff with G-Max. People do use FSDS to create commercial add-ons too, although G-Max tends to be the more common application for commercial products, largely because people in the commercial sector have learned on 3DS -Max. I would recommend FSDS rather than G-Max if you are new to modeling in 3D, as it is more geared towards the beginner where tutorials and usability is concerned, but when you get good with it, it can be used to create some really cool stuff. Abacus sometimes get slammed for their FS add-ons, but don't let that fool you, FSDS is one of the best 3D programs there is, particularly if you are a novice, and it is well worth the money. It will have you making a fairly simple aircraft in an afternoon, and that includes putting animated parts on it too.If you want to make the panels for your aircraft, you would also find FS Panel Studio a useful thing to have. Again, people use that for both freeware and commercial products. For texturing your models, you will need some kind of paint program. You can use MS Paint, which is included with most Windows operating systems, but it is fairly basic. So a more suitable candidate is Photoshop, it is however not free (and bloody expensive), which means that paint.net (not to be confused with MS Paint), is a good free alternative program to use. You might also find a little free utility called DXTBmp useful for converting textures to various formats suitable for use in FS.A Google search should find all of that stuff and where to buy/download.It's not as hard as you might think to make all that stuff, but it is not a breeze either, because you need good photographic reference and schematic drawings of what you want to model, and it all takes a bit of practice to get good at it. So don't be put off, but also don't imagine that you will be banging out works of staggering genius in a matter of hours. Good 3D models are not created in a few hours, it's a lot of work, but having said that, you can do it if you really want to, and remember, nobody is born with the ability to make 3D models, we all had to start somewhere.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
June 6, 200916 yr i got the abacaus fs design studio but it wants me to start from scratch. i want to insert an aircraft and edit it. (Example= a helicopter i allready have and lets say that i want to put guns on it) How do i do that???????? :(
June 6, 200916 yr Moderator i got the abacaus fs design studio but it wants me to start from scratch. i want to insert an aircraft and edit it. (Example= a helicopter i allready have and lets say that i want to put guns on it) How do i do that???????? :(The short answer is that you cannot. Ethical issues aside, there simply is no practical way to "edit" an existing compiled .mdl file. There are many .fsc files (as well as .gmax) available from sources such as http://freeflightdesign.com and http://sim-outhouse.com that you can download and study/modify to your heart's content.I also will mildly disagree with Alan's assement of FSDS. While it is quite good for FS2k2 and FS9 modeling, it's a nightmare for those who wish to build and export for FSX.However, that said, an FSX specific version 4.x is undergoing pre-Alpha testing and hopefully will implement full and integrated FSX Material support, as well as some other somewhat "broken" things... :( Fr. June 6, 200916 yr Not sure why you say that. I've got stuff out of FSDS into FSX without any problems, and I do know some commercial products which have used it.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
June 6, 200916 yr thanks for the help guys. :( by the way, do you know any good military scenery for fs9 (Military base)???????oh yeah, how do you insert a picture when you post a comment????Thanks Again!!!!! :(
June 6, 200916 yr Depends where you want in the world. I do know Scotflight makes an excellent package which has three of Scotland's major RAF bases for both FS9 and FSX - Leuchars, Lossiemouth and Kinloss. Lots of military aircraft operate from there, not just RAF ones. Find them here: www.scotflightscenery.comThe Russian rip off 'avsim' site has quite a lot of Eastern European military base scenery freeware on it, and some of it is really excellent stuff up to payware standards, although I simply refuse to post a link to their site on the real AVSIM, so you'll have to Google that one!The most flexible way to post a picture is probably to upload it to Photobucket and use the 'img' code which appears under your uploaded picture. June 7, 200916 yr Moderator Not sure why you say that. I've got stuff out of FSDS into FSX without any problems, and I do know some commercial products which have used it.AlPerhaps because I read all the posts from frustrated FSDS modelers? These aren't "newbies" either, they are some of the best who've been around for years... :( FSDS itself is a very good program; most of the difficulties occur during the export process, which is far from seamless and fault free.Just for the record, I invested more than a few hours of my time assisting Louis Sinclair to implement FSX specific Material support as well as the requirements for generating valid and licit .X and anim.XML sets, so I speak from some degree of familiarity with the process... Were it not for Dave Nunez's freeware tweak utility, it would be impossible to have fully FSX compatible models. Louis is currently implementing directly into FSDS v4.x the missing pieces that didn't make it into the current release. Fr. June 7, 200916 yr If you've had problems with it for FSX, then fair enough, I've occasionally had issues with it too in the past, so I'm not saying FSDS is perfect by any stretch of the imagination.Having said that, my recommendations were actually directed at the original poster's query more than anything, which was related purely to FS9 and is of course in the FS9 forum too, so it's kind of going a bit off the topic with comments about FSX issues for FSDS and I wouldn't want people to get an incorrect impression if FS9 is where their interest lies.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
