June 15, 200916 yr I'm just going through the slow process of reinstalling FS9 with all of my addons, and I'm having some problems with the Imaginesim airports.I have installed all of their airport sceneries and on some of them I appear to be missing the ground texture, with the default landclass textures showing through. I have attached a pic of one of the problem airports (KDEN) to illustrate what is happening. I have FS Genesis mesh, Ultimate Terrain USA and Ground Environment Pro 2 installed.I have installed the IS sceneries using their installers, and allowed the installer to add the relevant entry to my scenery.cfg. I have also installed the updates for the airports from their website. I have checked and double checked my scenery layer priorities and the IS sceneries are sitting above the UT ones. I have also run ScanAFD to check for any duplicate AFCADs and that was all ok.I have also sent an email to Imaginesim support but I am still waiting for an answer. I'm out of ideas how to solve this so I would be grateful for any ideas or suggestions. Thanks,Nick Nick
June 16, 200916 yr Nick, I wanted to reply last night, but a huge thunderstorm moved past my house and I thought it wise to power down the old computer... :( Imagine Sim's KDEN doesn't use custom ground textures other than the runways, taxiways, and aprons. Looking at the shot, the entire scenery appears to be there. What's missing is the default Denver Aerial Photo. You should get the same sort of look when you disable the scenery. Instead you see landclass generated textures. So make sure the Denver Aerial Photo is active. And the rest of the aerial photos, this may be happening at the other airports as well. Also, all UT entries go just below the Aerial Photos, when you look at the list from within FS, above if looking at the cfg file directly. I use FlightSim Manager and its Diagnostic Tools to scan for any and all scenery.cfg issues. It also resyncs the area and layer numbers for a cleaner cfg file. You may want to look into that. Let me know if you need the program and patch, I'll mail them to you.:( Mike...
June 16, 200916 yr Author Thanks for the suggestion Mike, I'll give it a try and see how it goes. Thanks again. Nick
June 17, 200916 yr Author Ok it seems to have worked at KDEN but I think the problem is not just limited to IS sceneries.I had indeed disabled the default aerial photos in my scenery libraries, as I have done for many years now as I don't really care for the stark boundary they create when they don't blend into the surrounding terrain textures. I had in fact backed them up on an external drive so I popped them back into my FS folder and activated them in my FS scenery library. It seems to have done the trickat KDEN, but other airports like KMSY are still missing textures underneath. However, I don't ever remember having this problem before, in fact if I disable the aerial photos I should at least see the default airport grass texture underneath my airports, no? On a little further investigation I appear to be missing entire default airports in the US! KPHX and KDFW are two examples I have found.I think I may have corrupted or somehow lost the files that contain the default airports in my FS9 installation, or at least the ones that cover "NAMC" (North America Central). Does anyone know what the file names are which contain the default airports in North America? Thanks for any help! Nick
June 17, 200916 yr I've just installed Cloud9's Amsterdam scenery, and the manual states you have to have a Amsterdam aerial photo activated. It seems that some scenery developers use this photo as the ground texture for their sceneries. Phil Brown
June 18, 200916 yr Some developers even embed parts of the aerial photos in their sceneries. There are only so many aerial photos, KMSY should show default airport grass where KDEN showed the aerial photo. If it doesn't show the default grass, your problem doesn't lie with the addon sceneries but with your sim. How you managed that in the process of a fresh install, I do not know. :( Where you look for the original files, depends on the aspect of an airport that's missing. The Afcad data is located in the AP*.bgl files. For example, KDFW uses AP922200.BGL (NAMC\scenery, AP918200.BGL for KPHX). Now, KDFW doesn't have airport grass, but a photo as well, but I do not believe the grass is located in those files. I do not know which files do contain things such as the grass. There's no way to tell what's missing either, is it just the US or is it a bigger problem? I think your best bet, other than making 100% sure the scenery.cfg file is completely error free and everything stock is enabled, is to reinstall, again. Then add one addon, start the sim so it can index the new files, close the sim, then add the next. If you install a great deal of sceneries in one go, you can mess up the scenery.cfg file rather quickly. (Do not restore the aircraft folder before doing this or it'll slow down FS9's startup considerably.)I've also recently installed a fresh copy of FS9 on another computer and updated it to 9.1. I then copied all files to a separate location on my computer and to my external backup drive, so that I can always quickly restore things, for example the entire NAMC folder. Beats extracting from CAB's and CD's.:( Mike...
June 18, 200916 yr Author I checked the scenery.cfg last night and sure enough the entry for Central North America was missing! I suppose I must have removed it by accident when I was installing my addon scenery. I've fixed the problem now and everything appears to be ok.I was dreading having to reinstall, as I've only just finished going through a reinstall including several hundred addon sceneries!Phew!
