May 23, 200323 yr Hi all,Well I would like to know from any of you who received a beta copy of FS2004, the following thing which has been missing in any flightsim....as far as I know...Does FS2004 have clouds casting shadows on the ground. And does the aircraft and building clouds dissaperes when cloudy?I mean,...in previous versions there are sharp shadows even when overcast with rain. :-roll :-lolFly safe, :-wavehttp://www.scandicair.com/images/SA_Banner4b.jpg Staffan
May 23, 200323 yr Moderator Staffan,I'm going to guess here ('cos I don't have a beta copy) and say no, clouds won't have shadows. The impact on performance would be too great. Take a look at your current display options and see if you have building shadows enabled. I'll bet my back teeth you don't ;-) Reason? Frame rate impact.Maybe in FS2010 when processing power may be sufficient to cope. But then again, perhaps not. People will be complaining their frame rates drop below 40! :7 Cheers, Ray (Cheshire, England). May 23, 200323 yr Shadows are also poorly done in FS. They are way too strong. This is bacuse the current software and state of technology is too crude to take into account all the ambient light and give you realistic looking shadow. I usually turn them off in FS2002 not because of performance but because of unrealistic look.Michael J. Michael J.
May 23, 200323 yr Author I agree Staffan, that would be a good thing, but as Ray puts it that would be extra coding and a hit on the FPS and not everyone can or would be able to have it on (but we should have the option still). I have shadows enabled, while it is a bit of a hit, I am all about realism and without just doesn't do it for me. Maybe in the future!
