FSX and GEX and REX and ASA oh my!

Featured Replies

Ok...I finally have FSX tweaked but I'm not sure what the "starting" sequence is when you have GEX,REX, ASA. Does GEX do a one time install of textures or is it like GE Pro in FS9 where textures would be installed depending on weather conditions (via AS6.5)? Also, I'd like to use the graphics from REX for my weather and ASA for the engine. I deselected REX weather engine, but do I still install a theme? Therefore I'm assuming the start sequence is:1) ASA--import flightplan from FSBuild 2.3--let ASA create the realtime weather--send to toolbar--still open and running2) Open REX and "install" weather theme? Will this override ASA realtime weather? How do I make sure REX is talking to ASA?3) Close REX4) Open FSX5) Load flightplan saved from FSbuild and flyThanks for the new to FSX help.Rich Perry

The sequence is fine, but you ONLY need to run REX if you want to install another theme. If you like the theme you installed the last time, you don't have to run REX at all! (I have FEX and I've run FSX with FEX textures for half a year while the FEX program itself wasn't even installed anymore!)You won't have to make sure 'REX talks to ASA': they don't have to talk to each other at all! When you install a theme using REX, REX replaces the default textures (or any textures that were installed by REX or any other program) with new ones. REX does not ADD anything: it only replaces specific textures. The names and the amount of the texture files will always be the EXACT same. So ASA doesn't need to know and even doesn't care which textures are installed: it uses whatever it finds in the texture folder. Those 'weather textures' don't have anything to do with real time weather: so a REX theme will never overwrite ASA real time weather.GEX has to be installed once and that's it. You won't have to think about it anymore.

Thanks but if I do use ASA as my weather engine, won't it overwrite REX textures when I run it--which I do for all of my "flightplanned" routes?

Rich,ASA will only overwrite the REX textures if you install a texture set from within ASA. Otherwise ASA will utilize the textures currently installed into FSX.Regards,Bob Modrowski

Copy thanks Bob--another quick question on UTX--I installed it and followed NickN's guidelines on configuing UTX for FSX...I know there's an issue with dynamic road traffic---but it seems I've lost all my moving traffic after installing UTX...I got rid of the "static" spots on the roads, but not sure how to re-enable ground traffic again so it won't cause a conflict. I run with about 12% on my vehicle traffic with advanced animations checked...still no moving vehicles on major highways.THanksRich

Rich,Did you by chance disable road traffic with the UTX Configuration Tool?? If so, that will disable all road traffic.--Bob

Yes...NickN suggested to do that in his tips...seems UTX 1.2 adds some strange twist that can cause stutters...apparently conflicts with FSX somehow.Do you run with iit on in UTX? Any issues?Rich

Traffic in general may cause stutters with FSX. UTX adds a considerable amount of additonal traffic with this option enabled. To balance this effect in FSX one will generally need to lower their traffic slider a few notches with UTX traffic enabled.--Bob
