Ariane review

Featured Replies

Can someone plz link to that review, i cant find it.

If you mean the AVSIM review of the Ariane FSX 737-900ER NG, that would unfortunately require a link to either my hard drive, where it is sitting as the MS Word file I wrote it in, or the AVSIM review editor's hard drive, where it is also sitting, awaiting editing, i.e I've submitted it, but it hasn't actually been published yet.As you can probably imagine, some reviews are backed up in terms of the timing of their publishing as a result of the AVSIM hack. It'll get published, but I can't say when that will be as it is the review editor's decision and not mine.Al

Thanks Al,I have the first "FSX" version of the 739 purchased in December of 2007, and now that I finally have it activated I am seeing some of the best VC and other graphics that I have yet seen on an a/c- admittedly only "eye candy", but stuff like moisture fog on the upper surface of the wing when flying slow in a cloud- I have never seen that before as far as I can recall. The only issue is that the flight dynamics are very buggy, it will lose altitude hold very easily and randomly and head for the ground :). There was a patch for this issue and others but I can't get it sent me as the product is "no longer on their server".However, I am considering a future purchase, maybe the new 738, which I'm hoping will have the bugs I'm seeing fixed, and even more enhanced visuals. So, another person awaiting your review ! :)Thanks, Bruce.

I think the Ariane 737s for FS are very likable, and despite the horror stories which abound, I've found Ariane to be not the monster many claim it is. My experience with their FSX incarnation of the 900ER was enough to convince me to buy their 800 model for FS9.They are by no means perfect of course, and certainly not bereft of faults, and you will see me list those concerns when that review shows up, not least of which is that the FSX version is rather pricey. But on the whole I would say you do get what you pay for in terms of something that, if it is not a carbon copy of a real Boeing NG, then is at least enjoyable and - perhaps more importantly - usable in FSX as far as frame rates are concerned. If I have any real complaint, it would be that I'd prefer it to have some of the fancier avionics options on the PFD that one can find in a real NG. But it is nonetheless usable, if a little Spartan in comparison to the average RNAV-ready NGs rolling off the production lines at Boeing these days. You might be interested to know that apparently Navigraph have announced they will now be supporting Ariane stuff, so the FMC should have a fairly full on complement of departure and arrival data very soon, which at present is only about half complete in the product. Of more interest to me though, is Ariane's promised NDM, which will allow the creation, editing and sharing online of SIDs and STARs in a dual database, akin to the real Smiths Industries FMC. I shall be very interested in checking that out when it becomes available, as I suspect it will make Ariane's 737 a very much more desirable thing to have in your virtual hangar.Al
