June 24, 200916 yr New computer.Setting up FSX (SP1 and SP2 installed)Default MS Baron.Looking from the cockpit to the either wingtip. The Nav light and the strobe light are mounted (visible round orbs ) on Top of the wing.Full round circle of light visible .. looks bad that way. They should be on the outer edge ... not visible at all. June 24, 200916 yr That's just one of a ream of bugs in FSX, but I still love it for anything other than flying airliners. Cheers, Andy.
June 24, 200916 yr Author Andy,Ok,Thanks for confirming that my new PC is not the problem.Do you happen to know if there is a fix for it.Like, changin some value in a file somewhere ... or whatever? Best Regards, Vaughan Martell PP-ASEL KDTW
June 24, 200916 yr Andy,Ok,Thanks for confirming that my new PC is not the problem.Do you happen to know if there is a fix for it.Like, changin some value in a file somewhere ... or whatever?I believe you would have to edit the aircraft file in some way or another.
June 24, 200916 yr It depends whether the lights are in the aircraft model or in the aircraft.cfg, I pretty certain it's not just a case of editing the cfg files anymore. Cheers, Andy.
June 24, 200916 yr The nav and strobe light positions are defined in the [LIGHTS] section of the aircraft.cfg file. This affects the VC and exterior views. The problem in FSX is that the lights seem to emit from a different location dependant on the angle they are viewed from. In the exterior, viewed from the front, slightly low they may appear to be correctly positioned. But move your point of view toward the aft, slightly high and now they may appear out of place. If your concern is only from the VC, then this probably won't matter much. You could try something like this; adjust to your tastes;[LIGHTS]//Types: 1=beacon, 2=strobe, 3=navigation, 4=cockpit, 5=landinglight.0 = 3, -6.81, -19.30, 0.67, fx_navred ,//was 1.17light.1 = 3, -6.82, 19.29, 0.67, fx_navgre ,//was 1.17light.2 = 3, -25.33, 0.01, 1.08, fx_navwhi ,light.3 = 2, -6.48, -19.04, 0.67, fx_strobe ,//was 1.17light.4 = 2, -6.48, 19.04, 0.67, fx_strobe ,//was 1.17light.5 = 1, -24.20, 0.00, 6.44, fx_beacon ,light.6 = 2, -7.52, 0.01, -1.28, fx_strobe ,light.7 = 4, -8.30, 0.00, 2.70, fx_vclight,Ron
June 30, 200916 yr Author Ron,Sorry for the late reply.I must have missed the mail indicating a reply.Your solution worked perfectly. The Nav Lights and Strobes are no longer "on top" of the wings as viewed from Inside the cockpit or in spot view. Thanks ... much appreciated. Best Regards, Vaughan Martell PP-ASEL KDTW
June 30, 200916 yr Your welcome Vaughan.Had the default Baron incorporated wing flex animation, then Andy would have been right. It wouldn't have been just a matter of editing the cfg file. The developer would have probably attached the light to a poly in the model. (so the light would follow the animation) In these cases only the developer would be able to adjust the attach point. It would still be possible to edit the offsets in the effect file but this would affect every aircraft that uses that effect file. That would be a mess.Ron
