White "paintbrush" streak in eastern night sky?

Featured Replies

I have a problem with my night sky where there is a white streak that looks like someone took a giant paintbrush and brushed it across the screen. I cannot figure out what happened with it. I have ultimate terrain x, ground environment x, and flight environment x and have tried different things, but can't seem to figure out what caused it. I have nvidia 8800GTX and use Nhancer. I'll try to post a screen shot. It only shows up at night in the eastern sky and seems to "follow me around."

Here is another one that I tweaked in Picassa to show off the "streak" better

That's the Milky Way. It's meant to be there, although it does look a bit grim on your second pic. There are several things like that in FS. Here's the Aurora Borealis:northernlights3.jpgAl

Thanks for the reply Alan.I've been flying FSX for 2 years and have never noticed it like this before...I must have done something wrong because it doesn't look right. Do you have any suggestions? In FSX, it is more visible than what the picture displays (first picture).

I think there is a fix for it in the AVSIM file library that was intended for people who thought it was a bit overdone, but of course that's a bit of a bummer at the moment since the library is down. It might be on Flightsim.com too. Never used it myself, so can't be certain whether it is still available or how good/bad it is.Apparently you can see the Milky Way when there is no light pollution bouncing off clouds from several places on Earth, and of course it is visible from the cockpit of an airliner since they are usually above inversion layers that tend to mask that kind of thing. One of the perks of the airliner pilot's job.Al

Are you talking about a program called AutoStar X? I saw that program listed somewhere, but haven't tried it.

I honestly wouldn't know what the thing is called, I just recall there being one from a very long time ago, so your guess is as good as mine as to what it is named, but I daresay a search on the net would find it with a few well chosen metatag words such as 'FS' 'Milky Way' and 'fix'.Al

Did you add that aurora in or did it pop up by itself?, like the occasional metorites I see in fsx? This is an FSX shot isn't it?

Nope, that's an absolutely stock FS9 screenshot. If you go to ULAA (Talagi airport at Archangel in Northern Russia) and fly around there at about 2am, or in fact anywhere down toward Finland, there's a good chance you'll see the Aurora.Al
