Do we have a thread for RL flights recently taken?

Featured Replies

Just curious...couldn't find one. Hopefully, this might get moved to an appropriate thread, if it exists. This past Saturday I flew to Phoenix to look at a car and had a pretty good time. Flew United out of KSEA to KSFO and on to KPHX. Takeoff was a bright 6:30am from Runway 34C on an A320, climbout at 180 degrees to the left, towards KSFO, with a peek-a-boo view of KPDX on the way, flying much of the route along the Pacific Coast. Weather was phenomenal with near-zero turbulence. Flew into KSFO to the west of the Golden Gate Bridge, beautifully enshrouded in Bay fog, only its tower tops visible; KSFO was clear, as was nearby Half Moon Bay. We did a hard decel/descent, hooked a wide-left 180 and greased straight onto Runway 28L, a flawless landing.A little over an hour later, another A320 took us to Runway 1L, where we took off simultaneously with another United A320 on Runway 1R, both of us crossing the path of an inbound jet, one mile out for Runway 28L. Together we climbed out, neck-and-neck for a minute, until my flight veered wide-left 270 degrees, leaving the other flight to continue straight on. My flight was over a cloudless-yet-hazy Napa Valley, then over the clear Mojave and into a hot, clear and bumpy Arizona, flying towards the airport's south, hooking hard to the left and onto Runway 25R. Our touchdown was perfect, but the plane yawed side-to-side very hard as the spoilers and reversers kicked in, alarming a few people on board.I claimed my toolbox at the carousel and discovered that the TSA folks inspected it, which was okay, but they totally discarded my TSA lock; it was nowhere inside the box. Is it common of them to toss even TSA locks? That came across as rather rude. Anyway...had a great time in Feenux. Saw some friends, had the world's largest burrito (Eat THAT, Taco Del Mar!), lost my el-cheapo Bluetooth at the airport, bought a shiny new one, endured the 110-degree heat, but still had a good time.Any other tales?

my most recent flight was home from vancouver to toronto737 700 westjet sitting next too someone terrified of flying i spent much of the flight explaining how safe flying actually is and how stuff that freaked the crap out of them was quite proceduralNot a cloud in the sky as we took off seeing the amazing veiw of the rocky mountains ( i have pics in the forum btw for those interested) A bit of a bump on the landing it wasnt nearly as smooth as the flight to vancouver, but other then that a smooth nice flight. It was a nice change to see an entire flight from the wing veiw when im so used to seeing one out of my virtual cockpit at home ;)

Kewl, seems we found a niche. Let's keep posting, good story!Oh, a P.S. to my post: United sucks as far as allowing you to film on board. Every other airline I've flown on, I've asked the attendants for permission to film at all times, and they were great: they ask you if your camcorder sends or receives signals, and I assured them it doesn't, and they allowed it. On United, I asked politely if I could film, explaining the camcorder received and emitted no signals, and their answer was a rude, abrupt "No". I won't fly with them again; I'm not too proud to pay for Cokes, but I wanna film, dammit!

ive had my fair share of problems that way too, finally i gave up and slipt my camera under my shirt when they walked past me then took it out once they were in there seatbelts for takeoff :) I dont know if id fly with westjet again due to the fact that they are completly cheap. Not only did they make us pay if we wanted an in flight movie, our lunch on the plane that was supposed to be included consisted of a half can of juice and a cracker with sugar on it that they called a cookie:P

Indeed, the good ol' days are gone. In '83, my father and I flew to Anchorage on an Alaska Airlines 727 and they spoiled us! Bear in mind, I was 3 months shy of 17 and we were being served a dinner of lasagne and summer vegetables as we flew over international waters. What really stunned me was when the attendant asked if I wanted a small bottle of Ernest & Julio Gallo wine. Stunned, I then turned to my father, who double-stunned me by saying it was okay. And I definitely looked all of 16 then!Great memories, which will never again be replicated...

Nothing can top the service I received on a TWA Super-Connie from KMIA to KLAX back in the mid-fifties!Imagine being served a hot meal on real china, crystal goblets, real silverware and linen napkins! :(

Yeah, but we didn't weigh so much then, neither...our low weight offset the weight of the niceties onboard. I'd love to fly in a Super Connie!

this is coming from a guy skinnyer then the anorexic girls in my school, but i think there should be a charge per person if you are over a certain weight it makes way more sence:P

Indeed. I don't remember the date but it was before the 80s, I flew often between St Louis and San Antonio. If possible, I would book the afternoon Ozark Airlines "wine tasting flight." Cheese, various breads and crackers, and four or five different wines were served. As the descent started, they would open the last of the wine and the pax would pass the bottles back and forth until it was gone. No one cared if the landing was rough.R-

---------------------evanx- did you notice the West Jet cruise altitude- it likely was FL40 - which appears to be standard with WJ including short hops such as Vancouver/Calgary. The view is certainly remarkable from that height. Also did you notice the very low thrust used on T/O? WJ says they are using low power out of airports to minimize bird hazards. (not sure how that works but likely saves a bit of fuel! And the noise difference between WJ 737NGs and Air Canada AirBuses is also appreciated!)Alex ReidDawn at Victoria CYYJ Gate 5- West Jet 737NG cockpit prep

when i checked the monitors (which i was quite often) it was normally saying around 25 - 33 thousand feet. we were considerably lower (or at least it seemed) over the mountains though.yes i did realize that with the thrust, a lot of aircraft in CYYZ seemed to be taking off slower as well.on the topic of hearing the thrust and engines - I found it hilarios because when we landed the reverse thrust started to really roar and the guy beside me started freaking out thinking the pilot had made a mistake and put normal thrust to take off again :( i let him squirm for a moment then told him that its to slow the plane down :(
