July 10, 200916 yr Moderator Is there any way to easily re-organize the scenery.cfg file? it seems a few layer #s are missingI use a tool that was originally for FS9 called SCM2004 to renumber and relayer sceneries. You can use it also for FSX since FSX has an FS9.exe in the main folder. You have to copy the real scenery.cfg from the Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX folder and copy it into the main FSX folder, open SCM2004 and make your changes. Then take that new scenery.cfg and copy it from the main FSX folder and drop it into the Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX folder and also put a new copy into the Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX folder and answer yes to overwrite the existing file. There are 3 scenery.cfg's in FSX, 2 are in the hidden folders and one is in the main FSX folder, and from what I understand its a good idea to have them all match. These folders are hidden. The scenery.cfg in the main FSX folder isn't really the real one you need to modify, but you should sync it to the real none the less. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
July 11, 200916 yr Thanks for the life of me I couldn't remember that program name! Had it on an old computer but never carried it over to my FSX machine. Thank you again.

July 12, 200916 yr There's an easier application that works without having to move the scenery.cfg file around on your hard drive. Go to the link below, then scroll down to the third post and download FSscenery.zip from the listed link.http://forums.simflight.com/viewtopic.php?f=230&t=66059Extract the file, then place the FSTscenery.exe file in the same folder as the one that contains the scenery.cfg file FSX really uses (NOT the default FSX folder). Create a shortcut on your desktop for the FSTscenery.exe file, then you can just double-click the shortcut and your entire scenery.cfg file will be "fixed" in less than a couple seconds. If you also create a shortcut on your desktop for the scenery.cfg file, you can then double-click it to open in Notepad and instantly verify it has been renumbered correctly, etc. Run FSTscenery.exe every time you make a change to the FSX Scenery Library, and you will never have problems with the scenery.cfg file ever again.Rick Rick Ryan

FSTscenery works perfect every time.If you are using Vista, the scenery.cfg file to use is in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX Al
July 19, 200916 yr Thanks! So do I not mess with the scenery.cfg file in the default folder?Nope. Leave it alone. Pretend it isn't there. There is nothing you need to do with that one. It isn't the one FSX uses or changes or updates when you use the Scenery Library to manage your scenery. The FSTscenery.exe program won't change it at all. You don't need to either.Rick Rick Ryan

I also use when I order the layers, I have hundreds. Just mark, edit cut and paste or drag and drop instead of hundreds of clicks. It
