July 12, 200916 yr Hi All: I'm getting ready to install Windows 7 in October and would like to keep my current FSX installation in tack :( . I realize that I would probably have to re due all of my desktop short cuts but do you know of a safeway that I can move the 40GB to my new home will be a WD 160 Velocirator hard drive. (do I copy and paste?)Thanks for any advice
July 12, 200916 yr You can move files with a copy and paste. The problem, of course, is keeping the registry straight so all the other files can find the program. If you have Ultimate Terrain it includes a utility to move FS around. I've never used it, but you might post on their forum for advice on how it's used. July 12, 200916 yr Are you moving this to a new HD you installed into your current PC or onto a HD in a completely new PC? If the former, just right click and select Cut from the context menu and on the new drive, Paste in the folder of your choice on the new drive. That is all I did this past week when I got a new 300GB VelociRaptor. Remember that if there are other add-ons installed that you will not be able to uninstall them with the uninstaller unless you edit the registry. July 13, 200916 yr Copy and paste is fine to get the main files moved. You then need to run a free tool to update the registry:It's called FSX Registry Utility http://www.tweakfs.com/store/free_tools.phpYou may also need to look at the cfg files in your user directory to see if any paths need updating.
