July 15, 200916 yr Hi, Wanted to add a VOR station to a scenery location that does not have one (see below). In fact, the VOR should be a TACAN, but have seen that that they can be simulated with a VOR. Anyway, what would be the easiset way to do this? I have not messed with scenery since pre FS98! :) Any help woudl be appreciated. regards,Macs :)
July 16, 200916 yr If I understand your post correctly you are wanting to add a visual element to the scenery. Afcad cannot do that. There are a number of freeware and payware programs available which will allow you to easily add "objects" such as you describe anywhere you wish.If memory serves, FS2004 at least has a VOR object in their list of default objects. My personal favorite program is the Instant Scenery Object Placer from Flight1 - about $25 US. It works in both FSX and FS2004 and to my way of thinking, is a far better value than the EZ Object placer (from Abacus) which many simmers use. Both of the programs a have a free trial download so you can experiment a bit to see if one or the other would suit your needs. The trial versions limit you to placing objects in a 50 mile radius of Seattle but that is enough for you to get the hang of how the programs work. Both feature a "what you see is what you get" interface.Hope these thoughts are helpful. :(

I am not interested in the actual scenery building, but in the operating radio station itself (navigation while flying) so that I can shoot instrument approaches. The add-on scenery did not come with one. And while I would also need to add a VOR scenery object along with the VOR capability (thanks for the tips to both anyway), I am more interested in adding the VOR station capability in the area. The approach plates show a TACAN-type radio station, but I read you can simulate this alright with a VORTAC (It would be nice though if somebody would make a simulated TACAN system for FS; receiver and station :) ). There is one approach (shown above) where there is never a need to make visual contact with the ground or anything (whiteout conditions), where essentially you perform a "controlled crash" at about 300 fpm (now this is something you don't see everyday!) Anyway, I was just curious if somebody knew an easy way to adding the VOR station. Many thanks again for your input. regards, Macs :)
July 17, 200916 yr You should be able to add it to the airport NZIR using AFCAD. You need to pick a freq for the VOR but that shouldn't conflict with any thing in that area.scott s..

Scott, AFCAD is not adding the navaid in the actual scenery for some reason, it shows as saved in AFCAD (and exported of course), but it does does not show up in FS (I have the right version also). Do you think it might be the vicinity to the south pole, or that the some portions of the airport are in water (ice)? Just curious and thanks again for your help, regards, Macs :)

Scott, Did the same thing (same version too) except for a few exceptions. Will try again. Many thanks again for your help,Regards, Macs :)
