Dissappearing pictures?

Featured Replies

I just saw another post where someone's screenshots were there and now missing.I made a post about Tongass the other day and the pic was there, then gone the next day.Anyone have a clue whats going on?

The pics were probably too big and got deleted. I've had that happen even when they were cropped correctly, apparently photobucket can screw up the sizes sometimes and put your images over the limit even when they have been uploaded at the correct sizes.Al

This has happend to the last two of my posts. If the the shots are too big, why do we get the "Your screenshot has been sucessfully uploaded" message? There's an automatic resizing proceedure which led me to believe if the file was too big, then it's aoto-reduced. I also get messages stating I have 1.9Mb of upload space left. To get this, then have pics deleted without comment is very confusing.Does the software not check for image size? If they are being deleted by mods, then how hard would it be to paste in a line saying so?Not a complaint, just my thoughts.

Guys, please just relax. Images get purged from the cache generally on Wednesdays, I think. Sometimes, somebody seems to press the wrong button and they all go instead of only those that are over 15 days old. Don't take it personally, it was probably a simple mistake.Post your images again if you want.Best regards.Luis

Here's the scoop..Avsim will bulk delete all attachments over 200K on a regular basis, the posting rules are clear about max file sizes allowed and the type of screen shots allowed in various forums. Avsim's software finds and deletes files over 200K in the forums, it does not know who you are or care, only that it does not allow larger file sizes to stay.Screen shots that show how nice something looks go in the screen shot forum onlyScreen shots are allowed in other forums IF it shows a problem the user is having OR a solution someone needs to show to explain , not just to be showing a screen shot. And then using as few as possible, don't just add the max allowed because you can.Yes, the current software will allow you to upload files over 200K Avsim asks you NOT to do it, if you care about Avsim, please don't do it.Other photos and screen shots removed, (even if under the size limits) can be from various web sites and carry copyrights and/or violate their Terms of Use statements.Yes, they also get deleted when found, you must own the rights to a photo or screen shot before you can just copy and paste it on another forum like Avsim. Likewise, you should not copy anything from Avsim on other web sites and forums. Please help keep Avsim out of trouble by thinking of them first when you are about to "borrow" a photo or screen shot from somewhere on the web. Many other websites do not even want their content to be linked to and when it's found on another site there can be a problem. If you read the various web sites Terms of Use statements you will see what they expect and don't expect of you.Start with the Avsim Terms of Use you said you would uphold when you became a member here. http://forums1.avsim.net/index.php?act=boardrulesIt's been asked, WHY do some shots stay up for a day or two before they get deleted ? Pretty simple.. the Avsim staff has real world lives and we don't live here on the forums, sometimes it takes that long to spot a problem and/or for some helpful member to hit that "Report" button to let us know to take a look. So... just because you managed to get it uploaded and showing in the forum does not mean you beat the system and now you can call it unfair when shots dissapear. If you want your screen shots to stay you have control over that.. stick to the posting rules and it all works out. We currently have over 63,000 members, can you imagine how out of control things could get if they were not watched on a regular basis ?BTW, it also helps if you edit out screen shots from "Quotes" if you use them, no reason to add shots all the way through a thread it only slows things down overall.Hope that clears it up, as members, you should want what is best for Avsim and it's operation. (Yes, when in a thread helping with a problem additional shots of proper size are left in after the first post in order to solve the problem the person is having)Below are the general posting rules if you've never seen them; Image Posting Rules1. Uploaded image size can be no greater than 1600 pixels wide and proportionatly high2. Images can be no larger than 200K bytes large3. Images exceeding 1024 x 768 will be reduced to that size automatically when you upload, but once uploaded, by clicking on the image, readers will be able to view the full size image4. No more than 10 images are allowed in a single message5. All images must appear in the first message of the topic, no subsequent messages may be posted that include images6. The posting or linking to images that are not yours can result in banning - adhere to all copyrights7. Web sites found to be linking to images in the AVSIM Screen Shot forum will have access blocked8. All images uploaded to the AVSIM Screen Shot Forum will be removed after 30 days9. Images posted from commercial vendors are not allowed (please contact us about a Gallery for your organization)10. Images from products in BETA Testing are not allowed11. Images linked to the forum must be no larger than 1024 pixels wide and no more than 200K bytes in size12. You may link to images hosted on YOUR website, but the images MUST be yours and not exceed the 1024 pixel width size

Tks, I just checked and it was 218kb, for some reason I thought the limit was 250, my bad.

Let me add one further point of clarification... We set the maximum upload size to 2 megs in order that users can upload up to ten images per post. 200K x 10 = 2 meg. Some have interpreted that limit to mean that they can upload a single image of 2 megs. That's not the case and if you are one of those people, please do not do that. The maximum single image size is 200K. That is more than adequate for display via a web browser. If a reader wants a higher resolution image, ask for it and send it via email. As Staggerwing points out, our system will remove any image over 200K when we run that function. Everyone's cooperation is appreciated.
